It is, and it's also not dishonest. Ansbach literally already saw Miquella charm a demigod while asleep. He knew that resisting it long enough to kill the boy would be a horrible challenge, but expected it to be doable. But it was not, nobody could. In the base game, it is blatantly obvious in Malenia's second phase the Miquella is "present" when the wind suddenly picks up and the camera zooms in on his effigy.
The fact that the st. Trina items imply a cult formed around worshiping a legendary figure that nobody ever actually met outside of dream encounters means shows you that Miquella is written like a omnipresent entity.

We know Miquella has power even if his actual body lies limp. Ansbach knew that, I don't know why there is autism about the "awakeness" of his body. Ansbach challenged him, because Miquella was there even if his body was asleep.
He was silent to Mohg, that doesn't mean he wasn't "there" to stop Ansbach.

We also don't know at what point Mohg turned into blood and crawled inside Miqulla so the "He would have prevented Ansbach from striking him down" is sort of moot.

Souls is just one big obsessively love letter to Berserk and Nausica, apply Berserk logic and it makes sense even if you scream about there not being any evidence of Miquella pulling Godhand omnipresence shit.

The DLC is highs and lows.
The fingerprint ruins are the worst locations in any Souls game by far. Those leech enemies are simply irredeemable.
But the DLC also has some excellent parts like the Shadow Keep.
I think the issue with the DLC is that its kinda the wrong format for its own good.
They clearly designed it with the focus on narrative, but its also even more open than the base game.

It is known that Souls games typically are story second and barely are coherent.
But this DLC more than any other was built around a cast of characters playing off one another and your Avatar and you all worked together on your journey through the map until you finally came to blows before the dawn of a new age built on the most secret and hidden sins of the previous one.
This is story first, the events barely make sense as you play if you don't talk to every NPC when you should.

Because it is story-first, this means that the map is comparatively empty vs the base game.
Because the devs didn't want you fucking around forgetting all the plot as you were balancing different NPC quests.

I think the entire game format is coming to a head in the near future and something will have to change.
The games have increasingly had more present and important stories, DS3 is like a playable cinematic at a lot of points and ER has Ranni's quest that is basically an entirely separate game experience compared to if you don't join her covenant.
Boss designs are butting up more and more against what players are capable of matching, and Nightreign has shown that the next step of escalation is literally just adopting MMO type class based co-op as the standard.

At a certain point I think that something has got to give.

I get that you can make an argument that its a test to see if you're really Lord material (if you can't beat a noobie wannabe God and the zombie of a guy you already beat once, what use are you to Ranni as muscle), but seriously, in a game where she's obviously you're intended girlfriend, there was some big missed potential. Or just say that she's too weak to do anything regarding helping you. But that isn't satisfying.
In general, I'd say that if you had any Mending Rune on you, Goldmask's, Fia's, Dung Eater's, or Ranni's ring, that you should have gotten some kind of boost from it. Like their spirit is inhabiting you and helping you fight for their desired future.

I'd also think that Melina should have left you a spirit ash after she burnt herself, so you'd be able to summon her later on.

The only worse horseback boss is the night's cavalry, and at least their stats are shit, while Gaius's are bonkers even at high skidoo levels. The only saving grace is that you can get him stuck on the interior corner of his L-shaped arena and then just spam hefty pots and AOE spells at him until he dies
