Training Innes' bow rank is deceptively painful though, since the only bow that gives extra bow rank is the dogshit short bow, he can't EP much and he joins at the lategame. Even in Eirika route, 2 range lock screw him out of a convenient way of stacking kills on enemies.
Even if he doubles and kills with each attack (very generous estimate), he will take at least 24 combats to reach S rank with every bow except the Short Bow. With the Short Bow, he theoretically can make it in 12 combats if he doubles and kills every combat, which seems reasonable until you remember that he still has no EP and that you're using a unit whose draw is his weapon rank just to use the worst weapon he has available and that this is the absolute best case scenario.

Yeah, but he still has to attack 24 times minimum, which is realistically like 30 times or more for S rank if you're not maxing out wexp with the short bow. In other words, you have to both deploy him consistently and spend 30 turns over the rest of the game to attack with him when several lategame chapters can be completed in like 5 turns at most.
My personal advice is to forget about Nidhogg and to spam the Silver Bow instead the few times you want to use Innes. It's not relevant as a weapon in SS even if you do reach S rank.

In Eirika's route, Innes gets the opportunity to use ballistae and those give 4wexp, if you kill the pegasus reinforcements in his debut chapter with it you can cut down on the grind pretty significantly. I will concede that in Ephraim route Nidhogg might be more trouble than it's worth but it's really not that hard to get Innes to S rank bows in Eirika's route even in a fast paced playthrough.

I think what's funny is that Shadow of Valentia did the diverging stories that are SUPPOSED to conjoin at the end much better. If 8 ever gets remade, I hope they do the same thing instead of the two very different paths bullshit, or do a Sonic Adventure 2 and have a "true ending route" you unlock after beating both paths and it's similar to Valentia where both routes interact with each other and form the story, revealing new details and such.

I went through a weird phase. When I first played fe8 20 years ago I loved prepromotes. I used Seth, Innes, Duessel, Saleh just because I thought they were cool. In Fe7 I loved Marcus, Harken, Geitz, and Karel. Hell, Titania id my favorote character in fe9. Then I got into the old tired mindset of "Prepromotes are bad they steal exp". So I stopped using them. Now I use them again because I don't feel like training growth units.

Personally my own Seth always gain like 1 speed in like 6-7 levels and then I just drop them because they can no longer double everything unless I want to give them a speedwing. The relay Seth is one of the best I've ever seen especially among my own playthroughs.

A phone emulator has a setting where whenever you close it it automatically makes a save state and whenever you open it again it automatically loads that same save state. See if you have a similar setting turned on, and even if you can't figure out how to turn it off you can usually stop it by deleting the save state

Your mistake is assuming that the marginal difference between promoted seth level 4 and level 5 is somehow equal to the marginal difference between unpromoted franz level 4 and level 8. In fact, it can easily be argued that the first few levels for an unpromoted unit have lower marginal value and returns become higher as you dump extra amounts of XP into them and their stats meet and exceed benchmarks, consider instead the future returns of the difference between a seth at level 15 ->16 against a franz going from 10->10 to 15->10.
