well i was planning a run already so i'll just copy and paste the shit i have down, should be obvious what class i'm going for by looking at the materia sets

>limit breaks restricted based on the character, no ultimate weapons or armor, no items usable in battle by anybody except yuffie(no x-potion/turbo ether/(mega)elixir
>aerith will have all the white mage shit + summons, only character allowed to use all with restore/heal, other characters will have some white magic spread among them because she's gonna fucking die, but only on the jobs it makes sense on
>cloud: ice, lightning, restore, revive(after aerith dies), added cut, magic counter, hp plus
>barret: cover, counter attack, restore, barrier, hp plus
>tifa: deathblow+counter, heal, hp plus, speed plus
>red xiii: fire, ice, lightning, earth, heal, destruct, w-magic, speed plus, sense
>yuffie: poison, mystify, transform, double cut, steal, w-item, sneak attack, speed plus, luck plus
>cait sith: gravity, comet, seal, barrier, time, restore, mp plus, mp absorb, only character allowed to use all with barrier/time
>vincent: fire, ice, lightning, earth, contain, ultimate, magic plus, mp plus, quadra magic, only character allowed to use all with black magic
>cid: long range, slash all, time, added effect, enemy skill(magic breath, dragon force), kinda gave up with him to be honest

still not really sure what to do with cid

NTA but Vincent initial magic stat is higher than others bar Aerith. Plus I think it's funny his limitbreaks take the control away and he becomes a monster so it's extremes of mage and berserker
Anonymous No.723861870 [Report]
>>723858348
Not really. It simply helped if you saw interesting enemy attack and tried to have it hit the character with the Enemy Skill materia to see if its learnable. Once you get Cait Sith and Manipulate you don't need to rely on RNG, instead you Manipulate the enemy and have it do its skills on the E.Skill materia holder.

I'd say reaching Wutai and learning Magic Hammer from the plant enemies make the MP resource handling moot because you can just regenerate MP from enemies from that point on. Big Guard E.Skill biggest drawback is the high MP cost so Magic Hammer counters it. Also some other E.Skills are expensive to use so if you didn't pick Magic Hammer, you wouldn't be using them that much

I like the concept of his limit break but it's just. Eh. Plus the first 2 limitbreaks of his are elementals so if the enemy absorb the element, you can't turn it off. Plus the first boss, Materia Keeper, after the earliest point you can get Vincent absorbs Fire and guess what Vincent's first limit break's element is? They were deliberately doing it.

Funnily Materia Keeper's weakness was Fire in Rebirth but it was relegated to the Nibelheim flashback

If you get Beta, Trine, or Aqualung it's basically an instant kill button on most enemies. The only thing that's semi bullshit about E.Skill are the ones like pandora's box or stuff that requires you to use manipulate then have the enemy cast it on you, since that's pretty much trial and error. But there are a handful of them like Big Guard and White Wind that are so broken that even on their own they make the materia worth equipping.
Anonymous No.723866159 [Report]
>>723866068
Agreed. And the main thing E.Skill has is that it only takes one materia slot. Other spells before you get Master Materia would take multiple slots to not only have but also needed to link with All materia for them to hit every target. Now E.Skill does all that and only takes 1 slot

Emerald Weapon's gimmick is that its Aire Tam Storm deals damage equal to 1111 x the number of materia the character has equpped. If you went in blind, the Aire Tam Storm would annihilate you because you would have more than 9 materia per character. Also Phoenix + Counter doesn't work if the attack kills the caster so you probably talking about Phoenix + Final Attack and to get Final Attack you would need to beat Battle Square multiple times to trigger the Special Battle you get the Final Attack from and if you manage to do that, you already knew Emerald Weapon and its gimmick. Plus you would need to have Underwater Materia if you were to beat Emerald Weapon without knowledge, because it woudl have taken more than 20 minutes unless you were using multi-counters, multi hit Limit Breaks and multi-hits. So your Phoenix + Counter going blind is a lie.

You came to this thread to lie.

Nta but if one missed something crucial, they often think majority of others did too. They don't realize they themselves might be dumber than average. If just before the missable stuff a character joins you with new gimmick (Manipulate materia) it's very common for players to try it out and stumble upon early Laser because they were curious to see how the Manipulate materia works

>to get Final Attack you would need to beat Battle Square multiple times to trigger the Special Battle you get the Final Attack from and if you manage to do that, you already knew Emerald Weapon and its gimmick
How are those things related? Why would I know that from fucking around at Gold Saucer doing battle arena and chocobo races? I honestly got all of those things without knowing that the number of materia equipped affected the damage of Aire Tam Storm.

>I never knew that until many, many years later. Aire Tam Storm would nuke the party, Phoenix revived them

If you die, the only way to cast anything at that point is the Final Attack materia that triggers on the characters death. You didn't go unga bunga, you spent ungodly amount of time to a) grind enough levels and GP to manage to clear Battle Square for the 2 top prizes that trigger the Special Round for the Final Attack b) you'd also need to grind the Phoenix materia to max to get 5 casts and c) you levelled up KoTR to max to have enough casts to kill Emerald Weapon. You couldn't even mime the KOTR enough times because after 2 KoTR you would get insta hit by Aire Tam and your Phoenix would break the mime rotation.

You didn't go unga bunga, you didn't go blind, you just did what all the guides online at that time told you to do and you even had Underwater Materia to remove the 20 minute time limit.

To actually go unga bunga without Underwater Materia just requires few Counter Attacks for multi hit counters, Cloud, Cid and Barret having their multi-hit limitbreaks and 2xCut materia and/or Slash All (not actually necessary) and have characters hold less than 9 materia each. That's unga bunga

Thread's dead but I've done a similar run to this, but I did 2 jobs for each character just for fun
>Cloud
Mystic Knight + Paladin
Has some magic, elemental atks, and sword attack skills like x4 cut
I choose Paladin as an excuse to give him Cover but I only do that after Cloud has his arc
>Barret
Gunner + Archer
Same thing I know but this is just me putting all the long range stuff on him
>Tifa
Monk + Black Belt
I unironically miss Black Belt and feel it has a niche and I really wish there was a stacking materia that worked like it.
Monk is all the counter stuff and I think of Black Belt as having deathblow and Final Attackk is used with deathblow too
>Aerith
White Mage + Summoner
No need to explain this one
>Red
Red Mage + Fighter
I give him spells, mp absorb, and some physical buffs
>Cait Sith
Black Mage + Gambler
No need to explain this one either
>Cid
Dragoon + Engineer
I think of Engineer similar to FFIV Cid so he's the only one with Sense
High phys dmg, low hp, and he has added effect for status ailments
>Yuffie
Ninja + Thief
All the speed
>Vincent
Berserker + Dark Knight
Fitting DRK, I give him low hp but try to get his dmg as high as I can and give him the absorb materias too

gameplay mod you can install with 7th heaven. do 1.5 not tranny 2.0 (there are two seperate mods for each version) and pick arrange (hard) mode, its better balanced and you still dont need to grind just be smart.
some highlights:
>much more difficult and redesigned bosses
>new enemy encounters
>option to save aeris, she is given new dialogue after disc 1
>expanded battle arena
>a ton of new post game content, every character has a sidequest for their lvl 4 limit
>equipment and some materia are totally changed, as well as materia locations, you will get cooler materia much earlier
>leveling up only gives you hp and mp,stat growth is done with an AP like system where you build your characters class with certain stat upgrades
>limit breaks are redone, some OP ones are nerfed and useless ones are buffed
>ultimate weapons are much more difficult to get, must be crafted with different items
>option to have cid or tifa as your permanent party leader in the post game letting you do different party setups

all in all the definitive version of ffvii for me, will never go back to vanilla. just dont play 2.0, i have no idea what sega chief was thinking. it has SOME good new additions but the balancing is completely fucked and even worse the dev finally couldnt help himself and went overboard with cringe OC replacing the original game.

The hard mode version of this was a fun run
If any anons are into doing difficulty runs of FF games I recc doing NT for FF7
>>723870339
What's bad about 2.0? Never played that version
Also nice to see another arranged enjoyer, I knew that mod was going to be fun when I saw the double airbuster fight kek
The way the 2nd one actually showed up on the field at the same time as the boss theme started was kino

>>leveling up only gives you hp and mp,stat growth is done with an AP like system where you build your characters class with certain stat upgrades
Sounds fucking dogshit, who put X's sphere grid trash into 7?

I play it yearly or so and it became "that part" where I get discouraged because my entire run will just boil down to spamming trine and white wind.

its nothing like the sphere grid where every character becomes the same by the end of it, quite the opposite where youre forced to make them certain classes

sphere grid is way superior to the FF7 leveling system.
the FF7 leveling might as well not exist.

I think I'm realizing that 1 character = 1 class as in DQ11 for instance is just superior.

literally everything other than just auto attacking breaks the game, engaging with any system, even at a basic level will spike your power level really high

it's fun to get overpowered but it always bothered me how you're punished for interacting with all the cool systems the game has

Did you ever buy materia in Midgar? They sell Lightning, Ice and Restore you get anyways in the first Reactor but also Fire you get when Red XIII join you at Shinra HQ. You don't really need Fire earlier because there really arent enemies or bosses weak to it before. I still bought them because it felt dumb they sell it if you don't buy them. And it felt goid to have 2 characters be able to cast Bolt and heal if necessary

4x cut also kinda breaks the game

Yes. I'd usually grab a second Restore then Fire so Aries had some options. Then a second Bolt and Ice before the Shinra HQ so I'd have an extra set once I got Red.
After I'd usually buy two sets lf everything unless it was expensive or something I know I'll never really use. I dont enjoy playing musical material so, with a few exceptions, I lock in what people are using.

related to this, I always found it funny that you had to confirm before buying any item, but materias are bought on a single click

Not that strong. The ATB fucks over all the buffs. Big Guard is pretty much useless and you can't multicast the spells.

It's because of the way materia inventory works, it's very convoluted and crazy.

Retard. You are not understanding at all because the guy didn't explain it correctly. You level up and at a certain point of the game you can use an option in a save crystal. There you choose a character and choose 4 kinds of "builds" each option will give you a limited amount of stat sources that you have to use in that menu. Then it locks you out of the option. That way you make your characters have clear roles with the specific stats you chose. You can focus entirely on Cloud being a mage by choosing the option that gives the most magic sources and choosing the Limit Breaks that scale with magic. It is really fun.
