It was for good reason. This door was supposed to connect the Ward to the Great Bridge and if you could enter from the back then that means you skip Father Gascgoine which is one of the most memorable fights in the game. Plus it would be a useless shortcut anyway.

In Tainted Grail, near the stairs down to the Frantic Berserker, there is a door set into the cave wall. It's in such deep darkness that you can only see it if you look at it from a certain angle, and you can't interact with it at all. I assumed it'd be used to return to the asylum later in the game or something, but no. It was nothing.

The Sundial is in Anistar City and it's never explained, the most you get is the town description saying "Some say the enigmatic device used as a sundial came from outer space." It has some vague connection to Mega Stones since you need it to find them in the postgame but that's it.

That one unreachable island in Midnight Mountain in Spyro 3

It was just a placeholder by the dev for where the super bonus round island was supposed to be. It was meant to be unreachable until you beat the final boss, which would make a whirlwind appear that could send you there, but the level ended up being finished by another dev that didn't know this plan so the whirlwind was dummied out, the placeholder island left there, and the super bonus round island just placed normally alongside the other parts of the level.

It did not work for Emerald, which is what the footage is of that game. It did however work for Ruby and Sapphire and in Japan all gen 3 mainline games had compatibility with those cards that you are talking about. In the US, despite the first 6 sets being obtainable, they kept the functionality in Ruby and Sapphire only but patched it out of FireRed/LeafGreen/Emerald.

But they fully explain what it is in Botw.
It was built as a way to defend the land of Hyrule from invaders by Sea from the East. And when the Calamity happened, Hyrule's military basically had their shit completely pushed in all the way to akkala. This citadel is wear they made their last stand. Thats why its crawling with powerful guardians in botw because it would have been where they REALLY had to fight to kill of the hylian soldiers (Or whats left of it).

There'd be nothing in there but a bunch of bones and rusty armour and weapons

it's funny how as a kid you don't always understand the boundaries of a game world and assume there's something there if you managed to go beyond it

like in pokemon I was always frustrated by the ocean routes being enclosed by rocks and I figured there had to be a way to get around them and explore. I really wanted to explore in ratchet & clank too, and you can actually clip really easily in that game and it kinda disillusioned me

i love pointless shit like this that isnt followed up on, it adds a lot to the charm of the game. If this was an older game, it wouldve turned into a playground rumor and kids would tell you that she reappears if you catch every pokemon and run around luminos city 50 times.
In Sun/moon, your friend wouldve entered the room, gave his signature shrug and went "wow that sure was creepy....its like she's a ghost" or some gay shit

Honestly despite X/Y being pretty shit, i still look back on it pretty fondly. Short, simple, and megas were probably the least dogshit shoe-horned gimmick of the newer pokemon games. characters still felt chibi-esque and being the first 3DS game, it had an excuse for feeling incomplete, and was the last time in the series i was hopeful for a new entry because "now that theyve worked out the quirks and understand what theyre doing with the 3DS, the next game will surely be better" (it wasnt)

I've always had SoM's songs stuck in my head, and I found myself humming to all the songs in FFA too because they're the same fucking thing.
Plus it's cool to see that the enemies in the game could jump around at any angle and you could pick your stats when you level up, two things I wasn't expecting to see in such an ancient-ass game.

Pokemon dump, just because I've had the games on my mind recently:
1. Pokemon SwSh's Wild Area being a huge empty zone full of literally nothing. People yelled that it looked empty and dull, other people yelled it'll 100% have more content unlock, either progressively or after beating the game. Neither happened, other than maybe the max raids, kinda.
2. Pokemon LZA's train. There were people swearing on their grave that Lumiose was only the first city and that the train would take you to other places (or that there's an underground part of the city), neither happened.
3. The golf course in USUM.
4. The Ultra Dimension in USUM, especially that city that's basically just a hallway and some stairs.
5. The dex cut making people think GF was going to use the saved dev time to make the games 100x better.

That was sort of a fuckup. Seth go eaten by LEVIATHAN, the Biblical one, and became it, fusing with the godbeast. It never went anywhere and was obviously a cut quest line, but that was what happened to him.

Gaia really felt like they were trying to build way more up to a Biblical event and happenings, but had to cut way WAY back.

I personally think the lack of day/night is a good thing and Gen 3 was better for it, because I'm a nocturnal NEET and night time is universally a worse experience in Pokémon games. Encounter tables are worse and the same for every route, the graphics become dull and monotonous, and in general it's a strange feeling to be going on this adventure and interacting with all these people at night only. It's particularly bad in Gen 2 because the times of day are of different durations and night is aburdly long, starting at like 6 PM. The games are intended mainly to be played in daytime in-game and this should not actually be locked to real-life daytime. Gen 7 had a decent idea for this with the Moon time offset, but being able to control it manually(as I do in emulators) would be better.

What's funny is I've tried to get back into CT way too many times over the years, but I just can't do it.
It's not even a fear thing, I legitimately just don't like the game, it's mainly a classic due to utilizing a lot of crazy tech that most other games didn't do at the time and for having a beginning-to-end story instead of just a handful of story beats.
Trying to replay it now just annoys me, I don't like all the railroading, I don't like that you can't manually nudge your characters around in combat, I don't like how slow you learn new skills in the early game, limiting the use of the whole directional combat thing. Plus I feel like the game has too many playable characters considering you can only have 3 with you, I had the same issue with FF6+7.

Heretic 2 had this fucking map as loading screen that teased a lot of stuff but then the path taken was just a straight line from Silverspring to the Cloud Fortress.
Why the fuck would you mention utterly specific shit like forgotten cities of ice or harpy islands and not follow through with them?!
There was also a giant globe in one of the earlier levels located in an elaborate room that seemed to originally have been a "find and enter the right combination of constellations and seasons" puzzle (Corvus even comments on this when you enter the room) but in the final game you just flip two switches and the "puzzle" solves itself.

Did using the word "Hindi" trigger some Indian bot or something?

old konami definitely would have made that piano unlock something if you played a certain tune on it

I feel like the death of cheat codes coincided with the death of mystery in games

I must be getting Mandela'd, that piano never did anything? I could've sworn there was a song or something.

>dev puts in an impossible puzzle
>fag reviewers don't play games long enough to find shit like this so they don't mention it
>get to this part and get stumped
>spend a week on it, but no dice
>look it up online, but everyone's avoiding spoilers so nobody says how to solve it
>never beat the game

That was always a big issue I had with the x-ray visor. Something that requires you to stop and scan shit really shouldn't hide any secrets, but Super Metroid was made in an era where getting confused meant buying a guide or hoping someone in your school knew.
