It could have been a good vampire game. There's some pros but the cons are so many that they overshadow everything positive about the game. Paradox idiotic decision to go through with Bloodlines 2 title was a nail in the coffin since everyone will just compare the game to the original (and rightly so) which still is way better than BL2.

What strikes me the most is the story and combat as mayor flaws that tank the game hard. Story has so many deus ex machinas that you cant take it seriously, from vampires not turning to ashes after being killed/beheaded through the ARMIES of ghouls/thin bloods that you have to slay which is ridiculous to the convenient "amnesia" of your partner which is just lazy writing.

Combat "looks" good since the animations are fluid but amazingly sucks ass, and it feels even worse than the original Bloodlines if you can believe it. Your abilities are mostly pointless, some overpowered but you need 5 blood points to cast them which is wild and retarded given you are an elder (weakened by some dumb mark - another deus ex machina) and given the amount of enemies you have to face in some combat scenarios. In the end combat feels lackluster and fights are just boring time sinks with no reward tied to it.

There's shit load of more complaints like Seattle being small for a map, a staggering portion of characters are DEI women, the game being sanitized from any grim and dark scenarios, sex, prostitution, torture, snuff etc.

So overall this game is as people expected fucked by the devs who had no prior experience in games with combat but walking sims and dumb story on rails. Also restrained creativity due to political correctness.

Excellent main story.
Really good voice acting.
Good combat system, but really badly explained.
Completely undercooked sidequests.
Structurally strange, two stories bolted together.

It really needs another few months in the oven. I am hugely enjoying it, but they should not have released it in this state.

Mate again this is just lazy. As I said earlier the game is sanitized to hell and beyond. Atrium had cultists just flat out fall to the ground no gore, no grim atmosphere other than Fabien's remark "oh look at them, so many bodies", also that would be such a masquerade violation with police being right outside the club, just dumb and unoriginal writing. This whole game reeks of incompetent devs that tried to literally copy every interesting plot point in Bloodlines that along the way they forgot what made Bloodlines plot good in the fist place. Just try to compare Hollywood tzimitze villa with literally flesh crafted interior like walls and monstrosities strolling through to Atrium where it's just groups of cultists copy pasted everywhere and suddenly puff and they all fall to the ground.

But sure give me some other examples of grim and dark motifs in BL2.

Seattle is boring in terms of what there is to do outside of the main story (literally nothing) and there are also no cool unique places. Personally, I think its actually overhated. I would go as high as 8/10. The powers are actually neat, traversal is really fun, and the story is good.

Well the Seattle setting is rather nice but then again art in the industry has usually a higher bar of entry so it should be given that the city is really pleasant to look at and seems polished but that's it. After a while the city feels just small for a 2025 project. I thought we will see at least 2 other parts of Seattle like suburbs or something since Bloodlines had Santa Monica, Downtown, Hollywood and Chinatown but no, it's just one city. Also bikes covered in snow parked in front of buildings is just retarded, don't know who came up with the idea.

Also one of my biggest gripe with the game is the way vampires act towards each other. Someone watched way too many episodes of L.A. by night. Every character is some type of happy, cheerful, funny, quirky, caring etc. Only Lou seems to be plotting and manipulating. It's like vampires are not monsters in human skin but some loving and caring bunch of misfits. That's trash writhing that fucks the immersion in the WoD atmosphere. That Lasombra chick comes to mind with her backstory. Lasombra find people that power through life altering hardship that would leave normal people in shambles like being fired and ending up on the streets fighting for survival, losing their beloved ones etc while that chick tells you her hardship was some problems at work and the fact her kitchen was flooded.... . Like come on.

I really think people who didn't play Swansong are getting blindsided by the massive tonal, narrative, and stylistic shifts in VTM that are seen in both Swansong and VTMB.

I don't want to come off as combative but you literally prove my point. The whole plot device of amnesia is something regurgitated from other game since the writer has no other idea what to do, creative bankruptcy . I find it lazy, it's the same shit like time travel, multiverse, "it was just a dream" etc. Also Fabien being weaker gen vamp yet still persisting in the mind of an elder is another deus ex machina since there is a stat check and the Dominant mind absorbs the weaker one and yet we are stuck with quirky P.I. that explains things non stop and cuts in while you are talking with people to give his perspective on things. This warrant no or very little replyability in contrast to Bloodlines.

I didn't play Swansongs but I shouldn't be required to have this knowledge since it should be contained in the main product and that's what Atrium is. Nothing special, nothing sinister about it because nothing is being revealed either by notes nor the environmental storytelling. Also movement in the game and its pacing result in player character just rushing through the levels not caring about the minute details and that's that.

What is sinister is Sabbat hideout where you literally see human blood bags with gouged out eyes so they don't have a way of escaping. It's the EPITOME of environmental storytelling, nothing mentioned about it, you just go in and see these people with empty eye sockets, blood running down their face and you instantly know what this means, how it happened to be and the implications of Sabbat intentions towards humans. The sheer dread is palpable, BL2 has NOTHING of such sort. End of story.

It's unironically one of the worst games ever made. I ALT F4'd and uninstalled during the second section where you play as the faggot hardboiled detective in a shitty on-rails walking sim "mystery" that leads you around by the nose.
The combat is atrocious, somehow even worse than in the first game, because at least there you could use a variety of weapons and actually use guns for their intended purpose, instead of just clicking one button and watching the gun that you're holding with telekinesis rapid fire until it clicks empty. There's no variety at all and everything is just a sandbag.
Exploration and the parkour system is completely wasted because the city is boring as shit, there's nothing to find which means there's no point in crawling around on the roofs exploring, and the parkour system itself is horrible. These retards never played Dying Light or really any game with good traversal mechanics. Even fucking vanilla Dying Light 2 had better parkour.
The characters are all one-note tropes. You've got the sassy gay Nosferatu, the chilly girlboss Prince, the self-indulgent narcissist ex-prince, etc. And the main character is a complete nothingburger. Your clan choice doesn't matter outside of a few "unique" dialogue options that affect absolutely nothing, and your skill "tree" is a straight line. Oh but you can hunt down three different "blood types" to unlock more straight lines for the other clans, which means your clan choice is 100% pointless because you are effectively all clans at all times.

It's shit as a sequel to VTM Bloodlines, but it's also just shit as a game. 2/10, and I only didn't give it a 1 because you can actually boot it up and play it. Fuck this game and fuck any braindead retard who enjoys it.

Jason Carl runs World of Darkness. He's the brand manager or whatever. He's in VTMB2 as the radio announcer. Of course it's like LA By Night. So much modern VTM discourse seems to be people getting shocked that VTM has completely changed in the past two decades. This is the problem when you have this long running franchise, and fans who only care about one entry from two decaded ago. They get completely thrown for a loop when the sequel to that entry is updated to match the rest of the franchise.

Taking everything into account, it's the best, most casual friendly VTM game. It doesn't turn into complete bullshit in the second half like Bloodlines 2. It doesn't have frustrating skill checks like Swansong. It's not jank as fuck like Redemption. It just, for the most part, works.

It has flaws. But it is the best game in the franchise by merit of not falling into the same traps as the others. It definitely needs work, though. And they need to announce these post-release development plans sooner rather than later. They need to have a series of overhaul patches over the next six months. If they do that, keep up the momentum, you'll see a major reputational turnaround. As with Cyberpunk 2077, it has a very good main story. (Definitely need to flesh out the ending(s), though.)

The original draft of TCR's VTMB2 story was by the Machine for Pigs guy. He left for reasons that are still unclear. And the Rebirth guy took over. But Ian Thomas took over and rewrite his story. Fabien (Malk Fabian) is an Ian Thomas creation. The first few abilities you get as a Brujah alone are more fun than anything in the first game. Bladed Hand is a branch ability and you can just decapitate someone with a quick flick of your hand, the way a powerful vampire should be able to. You can compel mortals to kill themselves and if you use the ability on a vampire it stuns and disarms them. You can use the dash to literally aim dodge guns, again like a vampire should be able to.

If we ignore the Fabien flashbacks, there is the fact that there's no meaningful skill tree or build differentiation, you can unlock all skills anyway so it doesn't matter that much, then there's the fact that the actual combat setpieces are very shallow, the only alternative is to use me stealth than combat (which I'm trying to do as Banu haqim), but the stealtch mechanics are pretty poor, it's hard to tell sometimes the direction enemies are actually facing and there are bugs like enemies seeing your through objects and walls.
