Yeah and that's what Grant found, at the time Crichton was writing deinonychus was known as velociraptor antirrhopus. The skeleton Grant finds is explicitly supposed to be what we'd now call deinonychus. The animals in the park are velociraptor mongoliensis, though, sourced from Mongolia and just way bigger than the real animal because that's more exciting.
>>724001596
Both the book and the movie were trying to be as accurate as possible to the science at the time, considering technical limitations.

No they weren't. Crichton is on record as saying he knows there were more suitable animals to fill the role the velociraptors do in the novel, but he went with them because the name sounds cooler than "deinonychus". That's without getting into purely speculative shit like spitting dilophosaurs, or the way the movie changed the T. Rex's teeth to look more like non-tyrannosaurid large theropods instead because they thought they looked scarier.

Crichton wrote the novel using information from a book where the author says that Deinonychus and Velociraptor are sister species, despite them living half a world and a few tens of millions of years apart. He then combined the scientific names of the animals into one, Velociraptor antirrhopus. Now keep in mind that even back in the 80s we knew Velociraptor was a small turkey-sized animal while Deinonychus was much larger. Velociraptor also stole Deinonychus's body, what you see in the films and other media is what Deinonuchus looked like, which is why in Evolution Frontier had to go back to Deinonychus' old 1980s reconstruction by Robert Bakker.

Im sick of every modern zoo game getting utterly mogged by 20+ year old Zoo Tycoon 2. Why the fuck can't modern devs just make a game that includes everything Zoo Tycoon 2 had and then some? My jaw literally dropped when I watched the JW3 trailer and saw that you STILL cant do handmade aquatic enclosures, its STILL just chaining premade pits together. Meanwhile zoo tycoon 2 not only let you make aquariums whatever shape, height, depth, etc you wanted, they also let you make mixed land/aquatic enclosures AND had multiple sea biomes, not to mention better geoforming, more and better biomes, diverse food options, complex enrichment like toys and play behaviors, scratching posts, shelters, far more fence options, shows, etc etc etc. They even had dinosaurs, and with those dinosaurs came security personnel, breakouts and capture operations, and even fucking fossil hunting and gene editing mechanics, literally a better jurassic world game than jurassic world and dinosaurs aren't even the focus.
Just build a better version of Zoo Tycoon 2, or at the very least remaster it.

Because character reactions don’t define what the dinosaurs are in narrative terms. Spielberg framed them as awe-inspiring and monstrous and that’s the whole fucking point. The wonder sets up the horror, and the fact that you're cherry picking those initial reactions despite them reacting accordingly to them being movie monsters later betrays the what little point you had.
And you'd act the same way too if you went to an island and saw a bunch of giant chimeras out of nowhere.

To be perfectly fair JP was a massive reason for the shift in pop culture from the old lumbering cold-blooded tail dragging dino's that were the archetype.
And the novel is pretty nerdy. Crichton was a medical doctor who realized he could make more money and do less work by just writing airport trash. What elevated his stuff was that in a lot of his books it shows that he did his research to justify whatever story hook he wanted to hang a book from.

I think these games had a lot of potential. But Frontier is a shitty, lazy, greedy developer that refuses to actually expand upon and improve their game to reach it. They have released nearly the exact same game 3 times now with very minimal additions and changes, while leaving out DLC content from the previous two to sell as DLC again. They are worse than Paradox. Instead of deepening the management aspects of the game or adding new content and mechanics, they just copypaste the exact same assets and add meaningless cosmetic items and janky modular building that consoles can't handle and guests and dinosaurs can't even interact with.

JP literally cockblocks other dino media from existing. Planned film adaptations of Turok and Dino Crisis were both pitched before, but their respective studios refused to fund them because to them it was useless to compete with jp. Legendary Pictures in adapting King Kong for the Monsterverse, left out the dinosaurs that are usually present with Kong on Skull Island, instead populating the island with creatures called Skull Crawlers.

Anon was correct. The popularity of Jaws made people go out and fanatically start killing sharks en masse. The author and creator, Peter Benchley, deeply regretted writing the book and movie and how successful they were because animals were being slaughtered for no reason because of it. Andromeda strain is another good example of how quaint the borderline sci-fi tech of the 70's, 80's, and 90's were in hindsight.
Fuck I remember the first gigabyte hard drives coming out, and my dad and I laughed because who the fuck would ever need a whole gigabyte of storage?
Now you can buy a cheapo thumb drive that holds 8 terabytes for like 20 bucks.
Paleofags, it's so fucking simple even a retard could get it:
Jurassic Park is cool and people like cool shit.
If you want people to like REAL dinosaurs, make learning about them cool.
The problem is, you can't do that. You want to power trip and dictate about what you believe is correct in way that satisfy your know it all ego instead of getting people to learn in an approachable way. Why this is, I can't say for sure. But it all comes off as jealousy for Jurassic Park's success.
It's like lefties that can't meme. They can't make any sort of meme that's organically funny and relatable, that's why it's mostly death by word salad that you can always tell it's made out of spite and seethe.

Like John Ford said "When the truth becomes the legend, print the legend"
Then in the time after the renaissance, when it became history, it just blurs together for anyone who doesn't give a shit about that period of history.

It's funny how people mock feathered dinosaurs as giant chickens because the ones from my friend's farm would hunt and eat live mice, lizards and even small snakes, viciously maul intruders like raccoons or hawks and even cannibalized one another sometimes. Science suggests that larger animals forgo hair and feathers because they already have a high internal body temperature. (See elephant for a real life example)
The reason birds have feathers is because they are small and scrawny and would freeze to death if they ever lost all their feathers.
Dinosaurs would be the opposite of that and your feather cult remains unconvincing to anyone who understands biology.

why wouldn't jurassic park make feathered dinosaurs as a novelty?
they could do it, and if people want those they can show them to people
the same arguments used for why JP dinosaurs wouldn't have feathers (they're genetic abominations not actual dinosaurs) also mean that they would have the ability to have feathered and non-feathered dinosaurs in separate exhibits
hell they could probably put feathers on a stegosaur if they wanted despite them never having had feathers to begin with

Birth rates are collapsing EVERYWHERE outside of like three districts in India and a half dozen African countries. No one has kids anymore anon. And the ones that do don't go to expensive movies, they leave their kids watching autoplay on youtube for 8 hours straight. The market that you and I were a part of in the 80s 90s and 2000s is closing down and dying off, and corpos now don't want to just be a big fish in a shrinking pond, they have to cater to vultures and make ALL THE MONEY in the biggest most normie slop ventures possible.
Same thing with toys for kids, toys are manufacturered by whoever is the cheapest bidder with no thought put into the actual rough and tumble shit kids will put them through, because the only way to make money in that industry now is minimizing costs because income is shit.
Now there are other reasons why the JP/JW movies are pushing harder and harder on monsters hybrid shit, mostly because they want to lock down the franchise for themselves with IP fuckery and maintain the accidental monopoly on dinosaurs that they stumbled backwards into.

Jurassic Park has a quasi-experimental feel to their dinosaurs, gimmicks or otherwise.
>What if we spliced the Dilophosaurus with a frilled lizard and made it shoot venom like a cobra?
>What if we took a chameleon and mixed it with a Carnotaurus?
I know it's not literally that, but there's that quality to them that makes them fun. You don't really see that anymore, except for something like the Deinonycus, where it looks like it was spliced with a basilisk.
We need more cool looking Frankensaurs.

>They did this with other species they introduced too, like the Herrerasaurus and Troodon and those are fan favorites.
I still find it hilarious how much /v/irgins piss and shit themselves over "omg all the new dinosaurs don't fit because waah waah Jurassic aesthetics!" and meanwhile we get a Troodon that's almost exactly like the one from JP:TG compete with venom along with a very JP:TG-inspired Herrerasaurus, not to mention the very monster-ish Liopleurodon and Elasmosaurus and the weird-looking Tylosaurus.

Ye but when modern movies do it, you get the crocodile Baryonx or the Godzilla Giganotosaurus design. I prefer they don't do anything stupid at all and play it straight, or better yet, have these movies not exist at all.

But the Troodon doesn't have glowing eyes or the white red and black color scheme, the Herrerasaurus is basically just a generic version of it, it doesn't even have the blue tongue, the Tylosaurus looks boring and generic compared to TT game.
But Elasmosaurus was cool, I understood what they were going for.
However I think the Crocoplerodon design would've served better on Kronosaurus, too many people see the WWD/Charlie the Unicorn Lio in their head.
>>724032798
Yeah those are ass, not all of them get the Winstonian aesthetics right. All you really have to do is just make the Baryonyx look like a mini JPIII Spinosaurus without the sail and keep the gator scutes and it would look fantastic.

Most people know little about dinosaurs and are retarded, especially movie directors/media people. Did you know that Trevorrow in regard to World, was actually not interested in having the Therizinosaurus in the movie originally? You know why? Because he didn't think herbivores could be threatening or dangerous. He only changed his mind when he actually saw the design for it because of the huge claws.

They're both pliosaurs with a similar body plan, and that's the thing, I honestly feel that Frontier balances JP-style with paleo-accuracy really well, especially regarding similarly-shaped animals. The four plesiosaurids are like this:
-Elasmosaurus, quite stylized with deep-sea fish eyes, a draconic head, and spikes everywhere
-Styxosaurus, relatively accurate but has a short head and three flesh fins along its neck
-Plesiosaurus, pretty accurate except it has a literal snake's head complete with the large scales
-Attenboroughsaurus, which is 100% paleo-accurate
So among the same group you have several different styles so they stand out from each other and aren't boring. Unfortunately they didn't do it with Gallimimus, Struthiomimus, and Archaeornithomimus, which is why Ornithosaurus is feathered.
>>724033394
you can really tell when someone doesn't know shit about animals when they say shit like not knowing that herbivores could be dangerous
the meme answer is always hippos, but there are far smaller herbivores that i would readily keep my distance with as well, like deer/ elk/ moose
probably assumes all herbivores act like farm animals, and even then, horses and cows can easily kill a full grown man with little effort

That's literally it, people always assume eats plants = docile and funny like the moo cows they see on TV. They have no idea that herbivores are often far more dangerous than carnivores because they're fighting for their very lives while the carnivore is just getting dinner. But it's funny seeing their faces and reactions when you tell them the Big Five of Africa only contains two carnivores.
>>724033821
i think a lot of it also comes from morons who have never seen a wild animal larger than a raccoon
the amount of actual retards i see getting way to close to a bear to take pictures is really making me question if most people just have a death wish or are passively suicidal

The pacing at which dinosaurs are introduced is incredibly fucking shit, ye. I think they made a mistake not leaning harder into the dino marketplace mechanic, only introducing that shit when you're in Malta, at which point you already have your own fossil collection and don't need the market dinos. It could've been a good way to get some cool dinos early if it happened to be on the market.
Can you build bridges and tunnels in the game?
>>724036085
Yes, above-ground tunnels anyway. Guests and vehicles won't use the bridges, though, you can't put paths on them so they're strictly decoration unless you use a glitch.

With how frequently the path finding breaks down for the maintenance teams and how little effort is put into the park guests, not having bridges or tunnels is almost to be expected. The dev team might legitimately have no idea how to reliably make sure their simplistic AIs understand how having overlap paths on different Y-levels works, while maybe something like attaching gender dimorphism and infants might be easier to staple on.
There's no good excuse for Sauropods and Hadrosaurs just being walking fleshbags for meat grazing. Literally just do a half-ass copy of JPOG and give them damage dealing animations and randomize if it's successful or not. Just one giant arm-swing slap from a Hadrosaur should lay anything out and likewise with a sauropod stomp.

I'm still mixed on the guest thing, on the one hand the individual guests from JPOG were cute and funny but it also meant you had relatively few guests visible, while in Evolution they're all just for show but you can see lots and lots of them. At least the attractions and amenities directly influence the four guest types so there's a good compromise.
You can actually get very creative with making tunnels both above and below ground, from building ones out of the many rock and tree options to digging a trench and covering it, the paths and vehicle tracks can go through them. I just wish Frontier would listen and put in things like elevated walkways, people movers, and boardwalks and simple bridges for the paths and tracks when you move them over water.
That's exactly what I'm saying, they don't need to fight, just have a few defensive animations and roll the dice on if it uses them/is successful with them. Shit, just use their attacking the fences animations if they can't do unique ones, a Brachiosaurus kicking with its front leg or an Edmontosaurus swinging its tail will knock any medium and large theropod on its ass.
