Finished Chapter 7 for the first time ever. Are the zelmite mines worth it? I'm stat-maxxing my weapons but also i'm missing some health upgrades despite going back and forth in every future chapter a couple times, wish the chest weren't that hidden

I will never get why they went with such an inferior town building system. They had it down practically perfectly with the first game.
And the fact that you can fuck yourself if you don't take a picture or two of the first boss is just... fucking crazy.
That's not okay. Like, at all. When I realized I couldn't go back and get it on my save and had to start over from the start it really fucked with me and soured my entire playthrough.

state scumming is the only reason i got a lot of the Spheda medals. it's like they didn't even test this shit. there are places where the ball will just go, and its not counted as out of bounds, but you still can't reach it. so the ball's just there and you're fucked.

i think if they had made it so you get the ridepod movement upgrades a chapter earlier, that would have helped with the slow pace.
goddamn it's tedious slowly stomping your way around the dungeons.

i looked up what dead end i needed to hit and blazed through it as fast as i could. i was definitely ready for it to be over.

the quality of the game can't be denied, but the gameplay loop gets monotonous. and tedious, before you've got something to make the ridepod faster.

also i guess a chunk of stuff got cut.
it's weird that only Max gets to do anything. only Max can take photos. only Max can fish. only Max can play Spheda. even though you literally see screenshots of Monica playing Spheda, and she's the one who teaches Max how to play in the first place.
she really comes off as the sidekick with Max as the star.

I got to the mountain area and tapped out.

That game is way too grindy and repetitive.

The photo system is something I sorely miss. It felt so rewarding when you found a new photo or new combinations for blueprints. I wish a new game would do something like it. I didn't finish Rogue Galaxy.

The grind was appealing to me when I was a kid since I couldn't afford a lot of games and had a lot more free time. There being just so much stuff to do and grind out was nice. It's definitely harder to swallow as an old man with much less free time.

Are enemies supposed to deal high damage no matter what you do in this game? I keep finding health upgrades, but enemies in the next dungeon still kill me in only couple of hits, it only becomes bearable if I go back to old dungeons

The new dungeon always supposed to be difficult spike at first. You can up your defense by finding the brown chests with potato cakes and witch parfaits. I think after clearing the sewer, the camp Donny puts up has them. Also once you start building the towns, the future versions of the towns have them once you complete objectives

False. You might be missing some mid-game item for missing the photos, but there's nothing you would need by the end of the game. It's your completionist autsim speaking

Just finished Dark Cloud 1 myself, started this, not sticking around for spoilers but good luck OP.
And if it's anything like DC1, which so far it is - then missing out on a few chests isn't that big a deal, as long as you get like 70-80% of the upgrades you'll be fine, so long as you're not oneshot.

Been playing this this week while recovering from laser eye surgery. I'm on chapter 3, I like the game a lot but I'm thinking of dropping it. Man I'm just constantly stuck in a 'what do I do now?' Loop. Like all my dungeons are cleared, I've built everything I can build. Wtf do I do? This happened last chapter too until I googled it and learned I needed to go talk to one specific npc tucked away somewhere. Do I really need to just keep googling shit all the time? Also the amount of loading in from place to place is bothering me.

Otherwise really enjoying it though. Crazy a ps2 game managed to do so much.

Also I have both an absorption coin and a 'do extra damage while also hurting yourself' coin what should I use them on?

Bit of a rough start, but every time you think it's about to get annoying it pulls back and gives you a workaround.
You're getting poisoned by cave bats every time they look at you... until you realise that starter kid has about 8 seconds of pure iframes on his jump slash.
You think you're going to have to grind up every character... until you realise you can just status break the default weapon after a quick 5 floor runback to slap it into anything to double/triple damage and have them ready for endgame immediately.
You think that money is going to be a real issue... until you realise that fishing sucks and the bait all sells for half a thousand each.

Thirst is a nonissue, water is cheap as fuck and there's pools in about 60% of floors. Party swapping either, select just brings up a big wheel. The only time it got laborious was the girl genie's dungeon locks, you have to go through two submenus to change her weapon attribute and then change it back every goddamn time.

I liked it, fun globe-trotting adventure, just a nice time, gets outright interesting towards the end.
I did not bother with any of the build-ups or postgame dungeon stuff at all. As nobody should ever do for a jrpg.

Dark Cloud 2 has been one of the few games that I've had fun relaxing while fishing. I wish Minecraft and Terraria didn't make it feel like such a chore.
Also, idk I'm currently not strong enough to beat the final boss, so I'm just doing other things in the meantime.
