I got the Wolverine vampire hunter skin at the end of that one battlepass and just kinda slowly quit around the time Emma came out. I keep feeling an itch to play again, but then never boot it up.

Darkchild is garbage.
Her build is essentially the perma normal mode. You focus on getting red to 120 ASAP so corpses explode and slashes build your dashes instantly while also trying to get life steal and any sort of chain damage on purples. Life steal is mandatory for Wanda onward, you literally cannot survive Wanda's shield phase without it on higher Nightmares.
Once you get to 60 and then 120 the strategy is

>M2
>M1 for roughly like four or five slashes.
>Repeat.
You only use your second M2 if you need to panic dodge or escape, the majority of your damage is done via the slashes that cause massive explosions and demons slashing.

Highest I've gotten to is 14 on Nightmare IV and that took two people spending a revive each on 12 and 13.

Nightmare I, II, and III are easy and you can do them in your sleep with any team composition and even using bad characters like Thor and Jeff. It's Nightmare IV that's wildly unbalanced and nothing close to the difficulty of the other three. It's so overtuned that you get two-tapped by basic mobs and one-tapped by everyone else past wave 5 even with over 7000 HP.

Honestly I just wasn't having fun anymore. Whether it be from EOMM(if you accept that as a reason) or just not as good as I wanted to be. If you take enough upgrades to Blade's attack speed (I think it's 255%?) it rolls over into the negatives because of an overflow bug which causes him to attack either every frame or basically instantly compared to how he normally is making his DPS higher than Punisher could ever hope to be except he can be both AoE and 1v1. It's how all the people who have cleared Nightmare IV are even doing it, and it still requires you lucking into those speed buffs constantly. Considering you only get more than 10 currency on the pre-boss waves you have to really luck into them hard either through rerolls or dupes via the roulette. I don't know what the exact method to get them is but on one of my runs where we got to 12 with me as Blade I only managed to hit around 190%.

Generally you don't use Peni's ult or you use it in a last-ditch attempt to survive

The idea with her ult is that it extends her webs which gives a path to spider-bots, so you would start at your nest and then circle around the enemy supports dropping mines (so they can't retreat) and then fill in the space between with webs on your way back to safety

Before you ult as Peni you absolutely need to place down your nest. Ideally the nest has been up for a while before you ult so that there are spider bot reserves waiting.

Then you ult and do area denial because anyone that stands in your nest will get swarmed thanks to your nest.
And you also use this opportunity to harass the backline by rushing them and planting webs at their feet ensuring that they need to move or get blown up. Because you created a web trail from your nest to them.
Create chaos, divert attention, etc while trying to remain unkillable because you're being a spastic and you get passive regen from being in a web. Another reason why the nest needs to be down before you ult.

Honestly the melee from the ult usually never gets me anything. Sure it can move em, but it's pretty much just some disrespect kill. Maybe interrupt the healer by jostling them around but, it's basically just spamming mines and creating an area that no one wants to approach.
Despite this I usually alternate between left and right in a quick rhythmic motion while running around. Jostle, mine, jostle, mine, etc. Instead of full mine. Make the chaos a bit more chaotic.
