The original Halo Combat Evolved? Yeah, it's a pretty solid game for the time. Definitely deserves some credit for how smoothy it integrated vehicles without making them just feel like pure gimmick sections. It's also largely responsible for enshrining the 2 weapon limit and recharging health mechanics that have been the norm in shooters ever since, so take that as you will.

That's the 343 guarantee. Nothing sounds punchy or striking because they just record real life firearms and call it a day. My personal favorite is the Energy Sword, which sounds like a razor sharp blade made of thunder in the Bungie titles, while sounding like liquid slop in 343's titles.

It was a cultural phenomenon and a product of its time made for a very specific audience, also it pretty much had the best multiplayer system on xbox at the time. Other multiplayer games at the time on xbox were mostly really primitive and didn't have in-depth customizable match settings besides like, unreal championship then later unreal championship 2. The worst thing they did with Halo MP was leave behind lobby browsers which was more or less pretty common with og xbox mp games in favor of matchmaking only, but they made up for it by having its own messaging system so it was very easy to start up custom game lobbies or to use the messaging system to rally up your friends and go play something else.

Then halo 3 got forge which was insane at the time for a mp console game, since the only other game at the time that had its own map maker was far cry 2 iirc and nobody played that shit online. Basically it had a lot of features other xbox live games didn't have which explains its popularity.
