Kotor 1 has much better vibes and plays much better than the second game.

Kotor 2 is interesting to think about and has great characters but it has one of the worst most drawn out intros to any game and every other level is a grey corridor with too many samey underleveled enemies.

Malachor wouldn't be so bad if the layout wasn't so shit. You're an epic level Jedi at that point and there are finite enemies so it's just a case of blowing up rooms at a time until you get to the boss. Star Forge has infinite respawning enemies that are just strong enough to be dangerous so it takes way longer to get through, and you're at the level cap anyway so you get nothing for killing them.

I'm replaying it on Deck. Still a fun game that aged very well visually, but it gets visual glitches and crashes if you play for too long and after that no longer loads your saves - this can only be fixed by starting a new game, which somehow makes all saves work again. The forest areas of Kashyyyk constantly crash the game as well after you meet the exiled clan leader, but that part can be finished pretty quickly.

Didn't get to Manaan and Korriban yet, hopefully the rest of the game doesn't have area-specific crashes. I'm pretty sure emulating the Switch port would've been much more stable, but it has a terrible combat UI that covers half of the screen.

Taris is the only part of the game that is actually challenging, which makes it interesting. Levels 9-14 are mildly amusing, but as soon as you reach level 15 you can just stunlock the entire screen for the rest of the game.

Kotor was is a 10/10 game. Kotor 2 is an excellent game, and modifications on items is a great addition. Problem is it makes literally all the battles into roflstomps if you have 90 IQ because stacking damage mods on weapons is hilariously broken once you get lightsabers or just do dual pistols. Characters are amazing. Soundtrack is great. Graphics of Kotor 1 are timeless, graphics of Kotor 2 are too "cartoon"-y for my tastes.

All in all as a whole when playing them back to back you get a really good experience even if Kotor 2 has a shit ton of jank and crashes with restored content.

Go ahead, post five seconds. I tried replaying it last year and its just running down empty hallways and sitting through bad dialogue, broken up with some of the worst minigames I've ever seen. And the combat is so braindead you can just queue up an attack 5 times and go make a sandwich, and when you come back you'll have beaten the boss. KOTOR 2 is also this. I would be hard pressed to call either of these an actual video game meant to be played by humans. Only the most mindless cattle could enjoy something like this.

the random loot is definitely based on your player's level, that's how the script is written. there's a small chance to get a rare drop which effectively adds +5 to your level, so you probably got the highest possible roll when the plasma projector dropped

I played KOTOR 1 and 2 for the first time this year
combat was very dated but once you get into it it's kind of fun, especially when you realise that it's more about stats stuff that you do outside of combat that matters but there is a window in combat where you can do stuff like plant mines or run around if you're under-levelled
I'm a massive mass effect fan so liked the whole companion thing and really both games felt like a proto-mass effect, KOTOR 2 was better in that regard although the story still doesn't make that much sense, KOTOR 1 is more basic
I would say yes they do hold up and I played KOTOR 2 a second time immediately after beating it
anyway I got meme'd by /v/ into playing TOR afterwards and it was fucking terrible

I've played it a few years ago but I don't remember my mod configuration, it was a bunch of shit. However there should be nothing that stops you from playing in HD with readable fonts. My eyesight isn't exactly great either but I don't remember having any issues with it.
If you want some real font niggery Black and White 2 is a fucking nightmare, it's like the entire game's UI is in font size 6-8.

its not about hero's journey, its about the force. Avellone seems to really hate the idea of the force for some reason and in his game the villain wants to kill the force, which is a pretty retarded concept if you think about it.
The force is the life energy of the universe, but for avellone its an oppressive tool that decides everyones fate and he thinks thats bad. Then somehow the player is a super special snowflake "wound in the force" and if you go to a nuclear reactor planet you can theoretically kill all force in the universe or something stupid like that

Tslrcm for kotor2 is pretty much a must have. M478 or whatever it's called is worth checking out separately as I am fairly sure they are incompatible.

For kotor1 I don't remember large mods but little things like revan's stuff and I used an expanded feats and powers mod once that was great fun. I've never tried Solomon's revenge so can't comment.

I was lucky to have an Xbox and be able to play both of these games on release in middle school. Both where unforgettable. 2 needed 1 to be a classic style story for it to be an effective subversive style story. In that way they pair up perfectly as a duology.

Kotor and jade empire both hold up today in my opinion. They represent a nice in between between traditional wrpgs like BG2 and more modern arpg style wrpgs like mass effect 2.

It makes sense. At the end of kotor 2 kreia basically says the mandolorians are fucked and have nothing to look forward to but clinging to past glories as their civilization goes extinct. It's during the part where she tells you the future, basically working as the same info dumps you'd get at the end of fallout or arcanum telling you the fates of all the players.
