I'd like to believe this but given how much was cut and changed from the books its basically its own seperate canon. The real reason is much less sexy and that he wrote himself into a corner with the Mereen plot and even worse wrote himself into a corner with the Winterfell plot. Basically so many characters are converging in single locations he doesn't know who the fuck to use for the POV and how to effectively communicate key plot points in a way without the characters seeming like their omniscient or acting out of character.

mid and long uma simply have harder URA than the sprinters and mile runners. The reason is simple. Opponent uma all have balanced stats, which is easy to beat in a sprint when your Bakushin has 1200 speed and 250 stamina (that hardly matters) against a 500/500 uma or whatever.

However, that 500/500 uma is suddenly a serious threat in a longer race because balanced stats simply work there.

I still think the hardest URAs aren't even the longer racers though, but the ones where their mandatory races are a broad mix of shorter and longer, like King Halo. it also makes it much harder to train those Uma competitively.
