I like BR2, but I kind of get where you're coming from. It's better than BR1 in a lot of ways, but at the same time it's not really what I hoped to see in a sequel, and it lost some of what made the original unique. I'm also not especially fond of much of anything that was added to the setting after BR1.
I think BR2's overarching plotline is better executed, though, and I'm generally more fond of the characters and character interactions in it (though I think Hinako is a more compelling protagonist than Ao.) BR2 is somewhat better mechanically as well, particularly on the higher difficulties, though those are unfortunately locked until you clear the game for some bizarre reason.
