Second of all, HAL Laboratory is not developing the game, it's Sora and Bandai Namco with Masahiro Sakurai directing. They have the final say on characters.

the reasoning is that Planet Popstar is supposed to be an alien world, with alien creatures that cannot exist in earth. humans like Addie, humanoids like Ribbon and the fairies, or even animals like Clawroline and Leongar cannot exist in popstar according to him, even if 2/3 groups i mentioned arent even native there.

it is essentially the same rule he had for the anime, hence why he created Tiff, Tuff and their family.

tldr: no, they arent gonna be playable. what i can believe is that what we saw from Roadtrip is just the first third of the story and theres gonna be so much more, but thats it. if theres any remaining character slot, its gonna be reserved for the dark dude, his machine, and a bunch of extra mooks. and MAYBE another named guy like Gryll the witch, which fits on the rules Sakurai had.

Kumazaki is still the director of the Kirby series, not sure what's going on behind the scenes, if Sakurai is coming back or if this is just a one time thing, but Kumazaki hasn't stepped down and I doubt he'd be eager to after almost 20 years of being in charge and voicing Dedede.

Nah, Adeleine is definitely popular outside of just here. She has a simple design, and the fact she's a human girl makes her immediately relatable. Her artist portrayal and role as one of surprisingly few Kirby companions that sticks for an entire adventure (outside just Star Allies) add onto that as well. The final piece is that Kirby 64 is definitely among the more beloved mainline titles from Kirby, so that immediately gives her a boost.

I'm surprised a couple are insisting that she's not popular? Recall a lot going crazy for her return in Star Allies, and she's easily the most common request I've seen that's not already confirmed to be playable in Air Riders. Even past that, Ribbon and her are also the only Dream Friend other than the Mage Sisters to not be acknowledged yet. More than fair to point out her current absence, even if she has a few overly obsessed fans like OP.

By the way, I was going to point out that Adeleine might not be as popular in Japan, but then I saw that Kirby 64 managed to surpass a million on the N64 despite that console's issue gaining traction over there. Over half the game's initial sales were in Japan. Add on that she's the kind of character who should appeal fine over there, and I do doubt that her popularity is mostly Western-centric. The only really notable Western-specific boost I could see her having is fans of Brawl in the Family who got attached to her role there, but that was a webcomic that mostly ran at a time right before the internet had a massive shift in culture. It's great, but probably too niche to matter much. Everything else around Adeleine would mostly be her role in 64 and her subsequent return in Star Allies, which is about as organic as you can get for popularity.

Look, I don't give a damn about Shadow at all, but if they intended to keep him in the assist slot, the entire build up to his late assist reveal was absolutely cruel. Echo fighters were not handled well enough for people to refrain from hype him up. Not to mention he was the first assist of that final batch shown.

So that big wish granting clock thing is back in this game.
