they're shit for anything but high fps content. because oled has near instantaneous pixel response times. this is nice in theory but it eliminates any blurring. this turn unforgivingly reveals any flaws in the source material. guess what a common source material doesn't run at a high enough fps? that's right movies. 24 frps stutter on panning shots will never look more stuttery than than on an oled display - not bc the display is bad but bc it's actually too good. same with 30 fps video games. also not high enough fps. but as long as you can maintain high fps, e.g. pc gaming or some console titles they're fucking nice

Very nice. Even for SDR content. But could be brighter.

>how big of an upgrade is an OLED monitor really?
It's quite an upgrade. Looks better than all the other technology.

HOWEVER the caveats are serious
>looks really bad in rooms with ambient light, needs a dark room to look its best (kind of the opposite of IPS which looks bad in the dark but good in light)
>VRR flicker
>movies sometimes look bad on it (i dont know why, something about 24fps looking really bad on OLED monitors)
>needs a lot more tinkering and care to prolong its lifespan and delay burn-in, but burn-in is still inevitable
>much more expensive than other monitors yet it also the only one with an expiration date

I feel like the biggest upgrade in OLED is the glossy finnish, for the longest time it was near impossible getting a proprely specced monitor with a glossy coating without buying an overpriced meme display like the Apple ones. Even the best most expensive monitors look like dogshit because of the matte finish. It's also the reason why CRTs still btfo most modern 4k monitors in perceived image quality

Worth noting this only really matters if you play in a lit room. If you play in complete darkness it doesn't really matter. Also the new tandem OLED 4th gen panels don't use an MLA layer so the matte coating is much less pronounced. I picked up the new 4th gen LG 27GX700A and it's been an incredible experience coming from a 240hz BENQ TN. If you're in the market for an OLED please hold off and get a 4th gen which are all on the cusp of releasing and offer huge benefits over the previous gens. Gigabytes model is out pretty much now but has some serious colour banding issues, the LG one seems to be decent but the flagship models for all manafacturers aren't out till layer this year or early next year.

It's a real upgrade, but an expensive one. The fear over burn in is way exaggerated. Not only does it take a lot of effort for burn in to occur, they're remedies and prevention tools built into these monitors. My OLED has a maintenance thing that turns my screen off for about 3 minutes; though I hate it when it interrupts whatever I am doing.

I think if you're budget conscious you need to think about other upgrades before getting an OLED because it's expensive out the ass.

If you're playing old games, maybe. If you're playing anything that needs temporal rendering to work (i.e. every graphically heavy game since approximately 2018) then 1080p is the exact opposite of visual clarity and it's going to higher resolutions that gives you more visual clarity.

Just got mine lg c5 42 oled today. Had weird white vertical lines and got a bit scared, but they disappeared after a while. Even though it's a tv I use it as a monitor. It's HUGE, really nice for work, it's like having multiple monitors, but with no black bars between them. Response time is amazing, and going from 60hz to 144hz is great. One thing I dislike - It's too large to play games in fullscreen, If I can launch them in ultrawide it feels much better. Sadly most games don't support ultrawide resolutions on 16:9 screen.

No. If you're going to get HDR, get something that actually has some decent capabilities. HDR really only starts to get exciting beyond 2 stops of additional headroom, which will be HDR 800 - HDR 1000 for most people and their SDR brightness preferences.

It's great and is the Best you can get, but it burns in in a year maybe 2. If you barely use your PC then maybe 3. Also depends on the OLED type some burn in faster than others. You're better off getting one of the newer HVA or "fast VA" panels that are Mini LED. Like the AOC Q27G40XMN/ G30 or the Xiaomi G Pro 27i if you like IPS, or the Acer Nitro XV275U P3. They punch way above their weight in visuals and have brighter HDR. Deep blacks, none to very minimal smearing like old VA panels. Don't waste your money on obsolescence stepping stone tech like OLED. Remember all it takes is one time for you to leave your monitor on unattended for to long and boom your shit is fucked.

It's big, but a proper oled TV with a proper BFI mode is far bigger still. You literally get over double motion clarity for free and essentially no drawbacks. Your game run 120FPS? You get over 240fps worth of clarity instead just by strobing the picture.
Sadly they don't get made anymore since most people are stupid and don't care. They'd rather buy a 5090 instead to get actual 240fps for really the same result (or worse, 240fps with fake frames)

new oled TVs are still worth though, usually more solid anti burn in capability than oled monitors, as long as it's not QD Oled.
If you keep the TV just exclusively for vidya and a few movies, and do everything else on a regular ass pc monitor it will literally never burn-in. That's my way to do it. You don't need oled quality for your 4chan shitposting.

DO NOT buy a QD Oled monitor under any circumstance unless you're fucking rich and don't mind replacing it every 2 to 3 years. QD oleds made the burn-in meme actually real.

brightness is overrated. If the peak highlights are in the 600 nits range it's more than enough, especially in a dark room. Brightness isn't why HDR is good, it's how that additional brightness is used to add bright details (keyword DETAILS) that couldn't be shown otherwise in SDR, that's usually on small highlights, surface details under a light, the fire in the middle of an explosion, shit like that. After 400 nits of peak highlight the diminishing returns are massive. In many games they don't even have higher details to even show lol, besides the sun and even then it's usually capped

>Sadly most games don't support ultrawide resolutions on 16:9 screen.
you can just set a custom resolution, on nvidia at least. That's how I do it for my C1. There's also desktop resizing which can also work but it's better to make a custom res directly and just switch to that before gaming, I recommend adding 3440x1440 (most games support that) and 3840x1620 (multiple of the 1080 ultrawide res), just add these from the nvidia panel. THe desktop resizing is also on the nvidia panel (I still use the old one, fuck the app)

Quite big even coming from an IPS display, I bought a 42in LG C2 a few years back though, but since I use a huge desk it fitted perfectly on my setup. I would say if you have the space, just buy the OLED TV instead of the monitor, prices are pretty much same, HDR nit brightness is what matters the most.
A OLED monitor would be worth it if your main goal is refresh rate, but usually if that is the goal, you are also wanting low input and all that shit e-sport fags want. Now since monitors are usually cheap, its not so weird seeing people get a high refresh and a separate best picture quality and using a dual monitor setup. Me personally I got an ultrawide in portrait (90º oriented) that I spliced into 3 with Displayfusion, so now it works inside Win10 as 3 mini monitors around the size on an old CRT each.

The hdr 400 oleds are junk. You want a monitor for HDR. Mini LED will blast 1600 nits of brightness into your eye balls and you will feel ALIVE.
Anonymous No.724519668 [Report]
The first upgrade you should get is this one:
Set your monitor to gamma2.2 or calibrate it to it and play games that way, baam feels like OLED already
Secondly peel the coating from it
BAAAM your brain can't tell the difference anymore

I think it was around 600 minimum for to be considered "good", 400 nit ones work fine as long as you don't get much sunlight. 1200 and up are good for a well lit room.

Now if you get a 800 nit + a dark room, shit looks great.

i consider hdr 400 for oleds SDR+. hdr 400 for ips and shit is just a meme. wake me up when oleds get true black 1000

Burn in liability
>just get a good one
Even the good ones can burn in, especially PCs that are primarily static images when not in use

Agreed, minimum you should be getting is around 800, reason why I bought the C2 myself, besides I think I paid around 600 for it a month later after launch time, they sold out in minutes, so I got lucky with it indeed.

I just want a fucking monitor as a TV. Last I checked (a few years ago) there were LG monitors that were 45 inch monitors made for that purpose but that TINY for my living room. I'm looking at 70 inches plus. Any developments in that department? Gsync/freesync + 144hz (or more) OLED + 65in or bigger.

>Want to into OLED
>Don't want to spend $700-$1k every 5 years
That's more than I spend on GPU upgrades per year on a fucking monitor man. Wake me up when OLED is cheaper. I'll just stick with HDR IPS monitors that last 3 times as long until then.

I just got a 32" OLED with HDR, upgrading from a 24" LCD I used for 10 years.
The colors and black levels are amazing, but any time a black part of the image is in motion it leaves a blur in its wake from the pixels coming on and as a result it sometimes has much worse motion clarity.
Aside from that, its been a gigantic improvement, I love it.

Skill issue. Use the DLSS tweaker and change the ratio to something higher than the default, the sole problem at 1080p is that they use the default ratios which feeds the model a tiny frame on 1080p, you need to be at around 1440p balanced resolution to get good results from this AI scaler.

Get a C5. Cheaper, flat, glossy, and with a standard resolution/aspect ratio.

their the new crt/plasma age like milk expensive fragile burn in etc
had a bunch of them their only good on smaller screens and dont scale well

went back to lcd for tv's and monitors can rape them into the ground with back to back movies/tv/vidya for 5-10 years with no loss of picture quality besides some dimming
