Raven is the first insight into the guilds, Don Whitehorse, the war and then the whole Schwann thing, while Judith is necessary for the Kritya interactions, and the Entelexeia, including Ba’ul.
Symphonia would be the same if Regal, Presea, and Zelos were replaced with placeholders and their backstories cut out. Symphonia does the backstories for the antagonists better than Vesperia, but anyone who thinks Symphonia has a better cast is a meme-loving moron.

nakahara mai is boring when she plays these kinds of goodie goodie characters, especially here where she's mostly working in falsetto. I absolutely love when she's sardonic like the mc from jintai or bitchy like seele in hsr, but I'm completely checked out when she's doing one of these kinds of characters.

yuri is fine but he's a bit bland and trying a bit too hard to be cool. flynn sucks dick but I think I just hate like 90% of mamoru miyano's performances. Rita is the one really good character, very easy to like. Judith's VA plays her like a caricature and I'm not really into it, the character design is good though. Patty is silly but I do kinda like Patty, but I would like her more if she didn't feel like so much of a gimmick. repede's pipe is dumb. I don't give a fuck about Karol. Raven isn't written to be very interesting but his design is good and the VA does fine.

Rita is the only character I really liked in the end, and even then I don't like how she was written in the back half of the game, feels like they really lost grasp of her.
