Its a massively chaotic and over the top convoluted concept as a series to begin with.
Supposedly its a story about being a pirate but ultimately the Japanese just think being a pirate means being a REBEL and going your own way in life. Not raiding people, taking their shit, being a criminal or killing indiscriminately.
All because they have this moronic belief they think the guy who rebels and goes his own way is cool or attractive socially.
