it wasn't "great graphics" simply that what you retards take for granted in action/adventure games today, big coherent worlds, contextual actions, z targeting, riding a horse, varied objectives with sidequests and minigames had never been done in a coherent package like OoT before

there's a reason why mitsubishi calls it the blueprint for modern 3D games

not OP but if you were alive at the time you would know that it did actually look very good comapred to most games at the time. most 3d games still used a lot of 2d sprites, and often they had "realistic" art styles which didnt work well with graphics at the time. OoT had somewhat cartoony art style that was perfect for 64 graphics. it did look advanced and well done for the time. maybe not the best, but better than games that came out just 5 years before it. imagine if graphics went from mostly 2d to 3d since covid, thats what oot felt like.

So what does /v/ think of the OoT remake rumors?

I do have a feeling they're doing something, but considering nu-era Nintendo's stance on game development, they're going to catastrophically fuck it all up with forced open-air mechanics, bogged-down combat and an even more barebones story that removes all of the eerie atmosphere or more mature horror elements.
Also it'll probably get another tacky looking cel-shaded artstyle with anti-soul gas and cringey weeb bullshit since their hardware can't handle anything better.

There's some solid basis to it though. Even Aonuma sort of hinted at it in an old interview, and that guy has a habit of teasing future projects in said interviews.
Though seeing how lazy Nintendo's become in recent years, I wouldn't be surprised if it's just an upscaled HD port of OoT3D, either.

>So what does /v/ think of the OoT remake rumors?
I think it's a bad idea since OoT is a game that's already perfectly playable and gets re-released all the time. It would be weird to have a full-on remake if it's just 1 to 1 (even if they added some of the old drop content), and I wouldn't want them to make it more like Botw. So, to me, I'm not into the idea.

it's pretty obvious and goes back to what I said in my first post: souls and zelda have different designs but the similarities come from the fact OoT was so influential parts of it became sort of default elements of 3D games

It wasn't influential except for showing devs that treating the player like a retard and automating actions sells AAA games, and Dark Souls is more or less the opposite of that.

>also funny that you'd mention ueda since he also said the colossi in SotC were like inverted zelda dungeons lmao
Wrong. That's a literal lie with no source that links to a French interview that says nothing of the like. Ueda's only actual comment about Zelda at all wasn't even specific to OoT, and it was just that people shouldn't think of the colossi as bosses, but more like a full level like a Zelda dungeon. Funny how tendies always need to lie to pretend the only game they played as a kid was actually special. Now go ahead and post the interview with Ueda you're pretending exists, or stop pretending to know anything about video games and their development. No damage control, no sidestepping. Post the actual interview or you're a liar making shit up to prop up a shitty game you played as a kid.

>great graphics
By the end of 1998, only the most retarded Nintendo fans still thought that N64 game graphics were good. When Zelda OOT was released, people were already playing much more advanced games with graphics accelerator cards.
In fact, the N64 graphics were only really impressive when it was released in 1996, with Mario 64 and Pilotwings offering real-time 3D that few people were used to having at home. But the reaction didn't last long, as people soon noticed that the graphics of N64 games were ugly, with dull colors and textures, everything blurry, being surpassed even by 32-bit consoles in artistic quality.

Crazy to say now, but with the benefit of hindsight I can say that it ended up being a good thing to have to sell off some of my stuff. It helped me break the pure collection mindset and now my games are more limited to the ones I truly cared about.

My beloved copy of gauntlet legends is the dreamcast one, but I think the N64 version has better instruments for some of the tracks.

That N64 version of Castle Courtyard is just *right*

But the reason I love the DC version is they copied in the Mausoleum level from Dark Legacy, but put it in as a secret level accessed from right at the end of the castle treasury level. As a kid, playing that with my best mate down the road, we found that double-length experience of doing a long level followed by a secret, even longer level to be amazing. It's stuck with me for decades.

Legends for the Dreamcast came out later than the other Legends ports, so it got some of the Dark Legacy content, but it's still mostly the legends level layout and order.

The whole thing is just boring enough that I'm sure a big-bearded millenial youtube retro guy will have done an hour long video on the whole shebang.
