BG3's the only thing on there that I've played on this build, and I don't think I ever had an issue with its framerate on max or near-max settings (if it had RT then I disabled that) at 1440 native. Lolno, I played everything just fine on my 2070 until this May when I bought a new GPU and only because I had some money to burn and wanted to try the 144hz meme. Other than that I had no issues maintaining 60fps on 1080p with DLSS on quality, including ray tracing. This isn't surprising, AMD doesn't have much of a choice in the matter. They reworked a good bit of the architecture to include their tensor core equivalent for the 9000 series so creating drivers that work on all cards will be different due to different core hardware features.

I highly doubt this won't apply to the 7000 series as well, they just want to say that because it will look even worse. In reality everything that doesn't have tensor cores is getting shafted.

Nvidia basically abandoned the gtx cards when they got to RTX 3000 for the same reason, even though they were getting compatibility updates for new games it wasn't really feasible to focus on older cards that lacked hardware support needed for new features like DLSS and gaytracing.

There are no tensor cores on RNDA3, it's a hardware limitation not a software one. It's like asking for DLSS on GTX cards.
There's some rumors there will be some software equivalent of the FSR model for the PS6 but so far nothing concrete so I wouldn't hold my breath on 7000 series cars ever getting an FSR update. AMD clearly thinks they can't do much with software FSR and is moving over to a hardware based system like nvidia.

People have to remember that gaming cards are downstream from server and AI cards, the companies make their stuff for enterprise use and then sell the leftovers to us.

I didn't think much of it until I tried the leaked INT8 version in Silent Hill f and was amazed how much better the game looked compared to fsr3 on my 7900xtx. Penalty was minimal and I'm sure an official release will improve performance even more.

I used Bazzite Linux for a month recently, very nice and stable, every game I tried worked out of the box with no tweaks, only reason I went back to Windows is because I use a couple of apps for work. For almost every game there was a marked frametime stability improvement

FSR 3.1 still gets updates, but a lot of games just ship with 3.1.0 which suffers from awful visual bugs. In 3.1.4, a lot of that was fixed and you can just swap the dll’s to upgrade the versions.
FSR 4 can also run on RDNA3, but it’s slower and worsens frame timings.

It's really funny how bad the PC GAYMER community's long term vision is.

I remember a few years ago when people debated RTX2070S vs 5700XT and everyone said the 5700XT would obviously be the better buy due to being cheaper while almost as fast in rasterization, got the moniker of VALUE KING and all. I remember saying it's going to look different a few years later because the long term value proposition of RTX cards will end up being much higher than early RDNA due to the disparity in featureset/architecture/support between Radeon and Novideo. Was told that I'm a dumb shill, that DLSS is irrelevant and isn't in any games, RT is a meme and all this stuff will die within 18 months, raster is all that matters, etc.

Fast forward to today. RX5000 series aged like shit and the RX6000 (some of which are still being produced and sold today!) is about to get unceremoniously dumped by Radeon. Meanwhile even the earliest RTX cards from 2018 are still getting most of the new Novideo features and DLSS revisions. Raytracing and AI image reconstruction ended up mattering more than anyone expected, DLSS ended up being a massive deal that resulted in a mass defection of Radeon users to Novideo in the 2020s. The RX5700XT is now e-waste famous for being plagued by massive issues and aging like shit, and nobody in the used market would consider it unless catastrophically poor or misinformed. Radeon's newest architecture the RX9000 is basically them finally catching up to what the RTX2000 series started and a tacit admission they were wrong, the focus on AI memecores and RT units makes it clear the RX9000 cards are basically Radeon-branded Geforce cards.

I've been testing FSR4 on my 7900XT and there are many games where running FSR4 Quality @1440p gives me at best 20% more FPS. Going to FSR4 Performance will get me maybe another 10% more FPS, not worth the image degradation.
UE5 garbage benefits the most because running those games at native is nearly impossible if you want good performance.

I'd say that being a Linux user is literally THE reason to get an AMD GPU at all. If you do your gaming only on Windows (even if it's through a VM on Linux) just get Nvidia unless you also do non-gaming work on Linux that needs a dedicated GPU as well.

If you have the money and the physical space the best solution is to have two PCs and to use your Windows machine like a pseudo-console.

The newest DLSS4 iterations for the RTX5000 cards in regards to upscaling (the most relevant part) and ray reconstruction work all the way back to the oldest RTX cards in 2018. The rx 480 had as many cores as a gtx 1070, used as much power as a gtx 1070/1080 but performed worse than a gtx 1060 in tons of games especially at launch where the 1060 had a 10% performance advantage in reviews and amd rightfully got shat on for not having good drivers at launch. They literally overclocked and rebranded the 480 as the 580 to take on the 1060

It's been up and down, and this isn't even close to the worst period. There was a time when a top of the line rig would be utterly worthless in the span of a year or less.
It feels bad today because there's no progress to justify it, and we had it much better not even a decade ago.

Because it's an AMD you'll get about the same performance with DX12 titles, as that's and issue with Nvidia card's 30% performance degradation on average compared to Windows.

The performance is great and I'd say it plays smoother thanks to gamescope. I pirate with a peace of mind with containers gaming and applications, which aren't hard to make with Bottles around - you can just click the exe in the file manager and it'll run most of the time.

You can even just try it out on a live session with Kubuntu or something. Install Bottles, mount your ntfs drive where you have the game installed and run it with Bottles. You might have to fiddle around a bit, but that's the price to pay. Once you have it set up though, you won't need to touch it.
With Steam, you just mount the game drive and set it to discover the games in the SteamLibrary folder wherever you have it and run it with Proton - no need to install it on your drives and I doubt the performance of the game would be any different if you had installed it.
