Final Fantasy has always been a Neverending Story nod. Always. It's the ACTUAL reason for the name, not the artsy fartsy bullshit reasons they always go on the record about.

And the reference never got more obvious than with FFTA. The second half of Neverending Story is about how Bastian is isekai'd into the book.
And the STAKES, as he discovers much later, is that he's been losing memories for every single wish he's made with AURYN.
At one point he discovers a town filled with, well, immortal retards. As it turns out, these retards were once people like him, who used AURYN until they completely ran out of memories. And that's what happens when you run out of time in Fantastica.

There's nothing like that in FFTA. No reason they can't just stay forever.
They forgot to add stakes.
So it's fuckin stupid.

It turned Doned into a traitor to his own brother, a backstabber, a schemer, there's no doubt he would have no trouble turning into a fratricide next, for the new Ivalice worked like a drug for him. Contrary-wise, because Marche wanted to be out of it, he's the one that grew the most as a person, something even Ritz came to admit. As far as I have seen from several playthroughs, the literal only people "hurt" are specifically the bullies from the beginning (you literally wouldn't even know it was them unless you specifically had them nametagged during one mission) and assigned lawbreakers (who specifically are made aware of the shifting laws as they move about).

The literal only people in the world who are opposing his rule are Clan Gully and the people Clan Gully have beaten into submission and forced into a rebellion. The game is very explicit with this fact all the way to the throne room.

Unless this is just bait, at what point in A2 is this suggested? There are multiple grimoires in A2, and when Luso goes in, Illua tries to steal his grimoire from him as well. She uses hers to summon some entity from the Rift, but that's because she's basically feeding herself to it in order to activate a ritual. I don't recall these books naturally draining people's lives at any point, just that Illua's "Grimoire of the Rift" will kill you if you use it to open the Rift without sufficient steps done.

The actual changes that JP -> EN did is that they made Mewt's dad less pathetic.
In EN, he's just a down-on-his-luck bum. In JP, he's an alcoholic down-on-his-luck bum that the local community hates.
Mewt's distate for reality is more evident in JP as he evidently gets shit for being the spawn of the local drunk loser.

Was this even fucking confirmed? The world has its own history and past events. There is lore outside Mewt's tantrum. The Hero Gaol, a bunch of other calamities, underground cults etc. The Grimoire seems to have written over an already existing fantasy world rather than creating it from scratch. If anything, the departure of St. Ivalice should correct their distorted world rather than destroying it.
