Why did it take so long and why then?

Anything after KH1 is just retarded. CoM and Org13 should never have happened, KH2 should just have been about rescuing Riku and Mickey, and reuniting with Kairi. The ending should have been something like Riku sacrificing himself for some reason, all worlds end up separated again, Donald and Goofy and Mickey say bye to Sora, Sora isn't emotionally stunted and recognizes he loves Kairi and they hold hands like two awkward teenagers do. Fin.

That should have been the entire KH series.

I'm here because I saw the thread and got nostalgic. I loved and still enjoy KH1 but hate KH2 despite it being better in many, many ways. KH2 felt much more like a wild (videogame) while KH1 felt like a Disney movie written by Square. I think it also had something to do with it being one of Square's final works before the merger.

I always believed that's why KH2 was so different feeling, it was around this time Enix started demanding more involvement and old guard square were leaving or retiring.

KH2 was a fever dream for me, I didn't play or know anything about the spinoff and twilight town was weird as fuck, I liked seeing VIvi though.
I genuinely did prefer KH1 and so did my normie sisters who loved Disney enough to play through a Japanese ARPG.
I didn't really understand as a kid half of what was going on, but the worlds were endearing little segments of the movies with MY OC written in.

It was like if Destiny Islands in 1 was longer and you actually got to see the full town. Maybe I was just worse at vidya games when KH1 came out, but KH2 was so piss easy on normal difficulty, I actively let Ansem beat me up close to defeat, LARPing I was actually having trouble with the fight, just to deus ex machina myself into victory. I genuinely loved KH2 for expanding on a lot of things and making fights more anime-ish wild, but it just became so fucking easy. Even the Seph fight was easy compared to KH1.

It's barely 15 minutes because you've been replaying it for almost twenty years. No new player is rushing through it in 15 minutes. KH1 is suprisingly only like 3-4 hours long if you skip worlds and cutscenes and don't do any of the optional content whatsoever. No one playing the game blind for the first time is going to complete it in anywhere close to that amount of time.

Another reason why the lore was best in KH1. Yes, there were multiple keyblades but they had a good reason for existing. Mickey had a keyblade because he's fucking Mickey Mouse. He's an extremely high-ranking character in the Disney-verse so it makes sense that he's the sole owner aside from Sora to be chosen. It also represents the two sides of the crossover, being SE and Disney. Riku's makes sense because they had to use evil schemes to brute force it into his possession, and even then Sora's had to be brute-forced away from him in order to attain.

At this point there is literally nothing that makes the Keyblade a relevant object. The worlds didn't even have keyholes after 1. The idea that Riku's keyblade abandoned ship to Sora because of Riku succumbing to darkness it retarded because there are other wielders who did the same without losing their keyblades. So it's another aspect of the weapon that is meaningless. There are ten billion keyblade wielders now and it rapes the story. They're passed out like candy. May as well just give Sora a glock at this point because the keyblade means fucking nothing.

Kingdom Hearst 1 was the first and last time the story and world of Kingdom Hearts was good.

Its never said outright but from what we have seen most Keyblades are formed by a technique that MoM had which allows one to extract a Keyblade from a heart.
A technique that he made and passed down to make weapons in the shape of the X-Blade.
Its why you could have all those keyblade wielders for the war, MoM and the Foretellers were taking (presumably) whatever essence was in the Union members hearts and willfully shaping them into Keyblades.
These Keyblades while bound to their wielder in life also stick around after death and can be passed down and bonded to another later on.
From what we know, so far only the Kingdom Key, Kingdom Key D (before being merged), Way to Dawn, and the X-Blade are not formed from the process created by MoM.
Braveheart is then either an extra Keyblade Yen Sid had laying around from a former wielder or a using the Technique MoM created on Riku, compared to his inherent capability imbuing Soul Eater.

I swear this isn't rage bait but I never understood the appeal of kingdom hearts. It released when I was 12 and a couple of my friends wouldn't shut up about it, even 1 autistic guy who had a white pride thing on his school bag that hung out with us, he almost exclusively played c&c or DMC which was still pretty new then, also loved KH1. It's not like I didn't grow up with some disney either, jungle book was my favourite film for a time. I can only describe KH from the outside looking in as "gay". I think its interesting how its named after the Warrior of Light's sword from Dissidia/Final Fantasy 1. And Quadratum and 3 and 4 clearly has Versus 13 shit going on somehow. Riku and Mickey looo like Noctis/Yozora. I dont know what the fuck it means but the FF1 + versus 13 reference in Riku is just neat.

From what I remember in KH1 alone, Sora's keyblade locks, Rikku's unlocks, Mickey gets one because it's fucking Mickey Mouse. There was still some mystique to these things. I always thought the different keyblades you come across aren't actually new ones as much as the Kingdom Key changing shapes, which is why when Rikku takes away the keyblade you can't just take another one out of your pocket.
Now everyone has their own. Maybe SquareEnix or Disney wanted to ramp up merchandising or something.

The real point of making or breaking for most people is ones ability to emotionally invest in Sora, either as the Player Character for gameplay or as his own guy.

Square were big Star Wars fans (I mean everyone was back then before the nu disney times but they referenced it a lot) I wouldnt be surprised if Keyblade wielders weren't always meant to be canon like how only Luke and a few others had a lightsabers but the prequels had literal armies.
