This is sadly true.
99% of scene girls insisted that because they adorned themselves in such "unique" ways, they were "against the grain, individualistic, and not like other girls."
Yet they were all the same. Emo / metalcore / deathcore / pop punk cookie cutter music taste thanks to warped tour, hot topic, and late myspace. They said they didn't listen to "normal music" but they were supporting "alternative" subsidiary labels of the top three record labels the whole time.
They acted deep because they thought they were subverting normal culture but they were conforming to a new norm themselves. They also thought that serial-relationship hopping made them deep because they could quote more emo lyrics to their experiences and being heartbroken was character development. The same people that think their deep for reading poetry.
Then if you ever dated one? BPD city. They act like they're in love with you because you respected them more than their exes. Then they invest everything in you for 4-6 months. Then the BPD honeymoon ends and they realize that this won't work out and you settled down too fast. But neither of you want to leave the other because you avoid hurting the others' feelings while lashing out and arguing constantly.
So you decide to leave them. They hate you for it, call you the worst things you've been called, say that you're a pig and that you betrayed their trust and that you're a quitter for giving up.
Then after 3 years you talk to them on friendly terms and they were thankful you left them because they wanted to leave you the whole time anyways.
