I think it's great, but I do think the way they've fit the pieces together is weird.

My biggest disappointment with the game is that the Knockout Tours are so specific. They specifically made every course very directly connected via intermission routes, but then instead of having dynamic Knockout Tours that actually make use of that and would keep the concept fresh, there's just 8 very exact Knockout Tours that are always the same.

Make individual race queue heavily favour 3 lap course races and make Knockout Tour work dynamically where it picks six locations randomly each time that are one road from each other, and then you get the best of both worlds in a way that works best for that kind of race. Instead the mode that should be locked down and straight forward (single race queue) is overly dynamic and based on location, while the mode that should be dynamic (knockout tours that rely on intermission tracks to exist) are overly limited and samey.

No DLC is fine this early, but I do hope we get some eventually.

Mario Kart World is legit amazing and given me more gaming fun this year than any other title. All the seething is from schizos who can't afford a Switch 2 to play it.

Mario Kart is a game you are meant to play with friends. Matchmaking is bad on purpose to give you a push to go out and make connections in a world where we are becoming more isolated thanks to streamlining of internet interactions. MKW is easily the best Mario Kart once you find a group that plays in custom lobbies. Hopefully it is obvious that is a joke since they definitely just got overconfident on pushing the open world over providing a good experience, but it actually is true that playing with the same group makes the game more fun. I would encourage you to disregard match making for a better experience.

I can't believe that you can't believe you were hyped. It's Mario Kart with an open world and a 24 player count. Everyone was expecting fanservice up the ass and plenty of cool things to do in the open world. What we're actually shocked about is how they managed to fuck up such a concept.

Mario Kart World would be okay at $50. But $80? Fuck no it's not worth the price.
