False, protect and detect both have animation delays just like every other move and these are tied to the species if the pokemon who use them, not the player.

With people would make up their mind, half the time the city is too small, the other half it is too big, also, it is very much not empty, the density of sidequests is actually pretty overwhelming, if you don't do sidequests as they appear then by the end of the game the entire map is covered in markers.

Female is not much better, the customization is better than in SV but still very limited compared to SwSH or SM, the one thing male characters often get less of is hairstyles, which yeah, is a problem.
