>Why do normies hate character action so much
Unfortunately it has become a dated genre with no place in modern vidya.
The price increase to 70-80 sometimes even 90$ bucks have murdered the genre.
Normalfags don't want to buy a 12-15 hour game for that much money, and though these games are meant to be replayed they are not going to play more than once.
So we are at an impasse, because sure you could try to extend the playtime with all these arbitrary semi-open world, rpg, side-quest and various fluff mechanics, but if you do that then the action will take a toll and it wont be as good anymore which destroys the point and appeal of these games in the first place.
The modern industry is simply not a place where pure action games like this can survive.
Of course DMC6 will happen and probably do very well since 5 just sold way too much for it not to happen, but this will be a rare exception.
We will only see indie developers takes on this genre going forward, but this genre is just not something that can excel without a good medium sized team to pour their passions into. The thought put into the battle system, the polish, animations, mechanics and so on is not feasible to be done by small 1-5 man indie teams. They will come out and some may even end up being quite good, but they will never be able to reach the peaks of the genre.
