I think its also worth pointing out the DLC for HW 1 was only £18 and came with hundreds of hours of content, if you like musou games, theres no denying its probably one of the best valued DLCs there was.

Some detail about how the ancient Sheikah tech disappeared and that all remains is some replica stuff that Purah and Robbie made, does exist. If you finish Penn's quest line and visit Washa's Bluff, Penn mentions a "famous bard", but that's the extent of it. Kass' family remains at Rito Village including his wife and five daughters, now grown up a bit.
Their decision to omit Kass, one of BotW's most popular characters, is a bizarre choice.

It's weird how little credit Link gets, it could be chalked up to not publicising the fact per Link's wishes, but the likely answer is that due to how Breath of the Wild can be completed so many different ways, including never visiting any of the other major locations, that they went for the basic main quest line of "Link visits the Zora, the Gorons, the Rito, and the Gerudo".

They had to retrofit a lot of shit largely based on the Faron Woods area where the Zonai ruins are, but the visual story telling in BotW was enough for them to have a connection to the three dragons.

We learn very little about the Zonai themselves during Tears of the Kingdom, which feels deliberate to make you curious about them for Age of Imprisonment.

I quite enjoy the BOTW/TOTK cast, but yeah. I can't help but question the decision making of recent collab musous. You'd think Age of Calamity would have been a one-off, but between Imprisonment, FE Warriors: Three Hopes, and even going back to Warriors Orochi 4, KT's mind of making smaller, more focused musou titles continues to baffle me. I skipped out on DW Origins because the compression of these titles despite their increasing mechanical complexity is very annoying, I can't help but feel like I'm paying more for less. I don't even think these games sell all that notably (though I don't think the original two takes of Hyrule Warriors was selling gangbusters either), so I also gotta question who is asking for them?

Mineru is supposed to be the studious one that researches her own ancient civilization, as though Mineru and Rauru themselves have had little contact with their own kind and are discovering what they had left behind (many of the construct devices and even shit like the device dispensers).

Most of Mineru's interactions consist of consultations, apparently dancing with Rauru, and then getting mortally wounded in the imprisoning war.
Her spirit abilities seem to have zero practical uses whilst she's alive and well, and only serve to let her linger after death. I'm curious if Age of Imprisonment even explores her spirit powers like "I can leave my body to astral project and go spy on people".

Something else I was pondering, is what the fuck was Rauru's motivation for descending to Hyrule and becoming king, establishing a kingdom.
It's clear he has good intentions and was generally a good ruler, but why? Was it as simple as "well we've got all this cool shit that could make these people's lives better"?
The Zonai bloodline doesn't go extinct (just the pedigree species), they make it clear that Zelda is the distant descendant of both Rauru and Sonia with "both her light and time powers", but considering Sonia gets killed she must have had at least one child prior.

The other part about the ancient Hylian peoples, is that their pointed ears are far longer, with their ears historically being "their connection to the goddess Hylia and being able to hear the gods", as compared to other humans that don't have those ears (like the Ordon villagers in Twilight Princess).

The Rito and Zora thing does have a decent exploration if you go looking for it.
Basically just that there was a tribe that ventured beyond the great flood, and another tribe that remained and relied on Valoo's scales to forcefully adapt into a new species.
It's why the earliest Rito have such a human-like appearance, and the distant Rito from Breath of the Wild are fully bird-like.

It carries the implication that the Zora are a fish-like offshoot of humans, but the other possibility is that the evolutionary turn from fish to bird was possible because they're a species that reproduces from eggs.
At least, the Zora are known for a fact to reproduce that way, I don't believe Rito eggs have ever been depicted, and not sure if any have mentioned anything like hatching from eggs.

It's kind of baffling isn't it. I remember learning about that when people were talking about the story in that game feeling light, and sure enough when you check the credits it's just a thank you to Qualia Writers Inc. Crazy.

I just want to know how much content there is and whether you have to at least pay attention to strongholds or keeps. Whatever term they use. Yeah, I saw the comment above about AoC having more content than base HW, but it sure as fuck didn't feel like it. It felt like a straightforward push through the (bad) story with the occasional side mission where both main and side missions themselves were a straightforward push to the opposite end of the map. Am I remembering wrong? The first game had the story mode with missions where you sometimes had to double back and actually help allies. And then the 8-bit maps where each tile had a challenge and an unlockable with objectives that could be decently challenging. I know the gameplay is a lot of spamming combos to rack up grunt kills, but even compared to the first one, AoC felt brainless.

They haven't mentioned any side content at all though. It's been entirely marketed on the story and sync attacks. Maybe previews will show up in the next few days. Even people who played the demo seem to walk away saying they're excited - for the story.

Judging by the footage it seems almost entirely the same as AoC mechanically.
ZR unique action mechanic seems to be gone in favor of something to do with Zonai devices, and then runes have also been replaced by the Zonai devices as well.
I would guess the missions will be done in the same format as AoC as well, but then they'd have to create a new world map for that too.
I'm concerned about the walk and talk segments and how gimmicky the mecha Link flying segments are, which probably replaced the fucking awful divine beast missions.

If there's something that BotW and TotK uniquely fail at, it's environmental story telling.
Not because the elements aren't there, but because the atmospheric volumetric fog and lack of contrast is too overbearing and doesn't let you get a good look at anything at scale. The player becomes too pre-occupied with following breadcrumbs like their shrine sensor.

For example, in the Hebra Mountains (top left corner of map), there's a mountain peak with a circular section missing, and exploring it up close it's entirely slippery ice within that scar.
Nothing in-game calls this out, it was only given focus in the Zelda Notes for BotW and TotK, it's apparently the result of a huge energy blast coming from Hyrule Castle during the calamity.
