One of the Playerbots tried to steal my staff. I have no GM permissions so when there's a rare item that we all want it's a fair roll between me and the bots.

I can't describe the feel I get, when I roll against 6 people and all they miss, "Aah crap, the fire mage got it." Come here just check that spec real quick. And you're done when I'm running with Dominion, waiting at the Graveyard for your ass to respawn! Sorry, it's stuck in my head for two weeks. It's really the reason I felt like playing. Obviously WoW is unimportant to this. That's not the point. My point is to push forward replacing people with bots. In the same way social media garbage will finally die when we have chatbots, online video games will die as well, "but that's sad, the video game part." Is it?
I still think people will struggle to see them as real people even if they are 100% Allen Timmy Turner Test, no matter what, they need to exist in a more real state outside the game. Same with how chatbots will never feel real until you can store the whole thing offline on your computer and phone. But even then, we don't know, because we haven't even reached the level where bots can interact at a even decent human level.

The truth is the playerbot did steal the staff from me. He stole two items from me at the same time, and then the Playerbots always announce when they equip things so after taking the staff he let me know she equipped it. And then stood right in front of me. But I went through again and got it, don't worry kids, I'm okay.

Azerothcore is for Wrath of the Lich King only. And there is no playerbots for anything past Wrath of the Lich King. In fact I don't think anyone has even made emulated servers for anything past Wrath of the Lich King. They pretend to. But they admit they only have 95% of the spells working and so on. Well even original-WoW isn't finished. We still haven't even emulated that properly yet. I can't imagine what emulated servers look like for anything beyond Wrath of the Lich King.

However, why anyone would even want to play TBC or Wrath of the Lich King is a mystery. The only two versions of WoW are the original unfished game, and Cataclysm . Because Cataclysm is a finished game, they finished everything they set out to do. "What about the broken Isles!?" While they did plan always to add that, I'm not sure if it's ever mentioned in game.
But what are you gonna play WotLK for? It operates the same as the rest of modern wow but it's unfinished. Cataclysm is at least finished.

Unfortunetly when it comes to WoW, playerbots are not really being worked on, yet. They exist, and they've come a long way since the mid 2000s. But No one is really working on them very hard because no one cares, yet. They will though. Because as I predict, WoW will finally die soon when Blizzard makes Classic+, which will be a disaster that some people like and most don't and then some will like Classic++ and some Classic+ and the whole thing will be such a mess people will look for alternatives, aaah and thatt's when the real work will begin to not only do playerbots right, but finish the game the way it should have been.
And WoW is only important because it's going to be THE game, that first does interactive real Playerbots. Obviously other games can have good bots, but only in an mmo do you need a bot to be 100% human-like. Then you can erp, with some of them, maybe. If you start doing that in the party the bots might just kick you out. And you'll call them "Dirty bots!" and they'll call you a racist and stuff.

Do they actually retain context and cohesive identity though? I don't want the tauren woman i'm boning with my human paladin randomly thinking that she's the orc futa i was pounding yesterday instead. Basically - can you plug each character into a separate instance of the LLM with separate instructions, or does it all run through a single instance that, at best, is given instructions to "speak as character A", then "speak as character B" or whatever

The bots say all sorts of stuff that didn't exist in the mid 2000s. And should they? I don't know. If they were real human-like bots I'd prefer they act like modern internet people, but the fact that someone went in and wrote out these lines for them to say, is pretty cringe and not very based, maybe even a little schizo tranny larping too.

The bots are pretty good. They even heal and tank better than actual people from my experience. I'll attach a webm of my meh dps on some fat bitch in a cave with bots tanking and healing if you're curious.

As for gearing it depends. There's the random bots in the world that just auto-equip new gear whenever they level up. Though you can create playerbots from characters you make on actual accounts that can gear up through questing and doing dungeons/raids.

Professions and gathering I don't think they really do yet. Though to solve that there's an auction house bot module that simulates an actual economy as if they were gathering and selling shit on the ah. So you can still buy and sell stuff like normal.

I really wish I could give you an actual answer but since I've not tried it I have no idea. From what I've seen in past threads I don't see why not though. Maybe someone will show up who can give you a better answer and their experience with it.

I might have to set it up and try it myself so I can actually answer how the chatbot-bots work since it seems like a super common question. Though I'm worried I will literally never stop wacking off to the erp of boning undead cuties if I do.

The tank kept losing aggro and not caring about it. With SPP Classics the bots sometimes just aren't very good situationally wise.
You can tell them what to do, I try to tell them what to do as little as possible, because I like to hope soon we won't have to tell them anything. But even if you tell them what to do, they might just not really listen.

You know maybe I should get involved in the playerbot coding. But that would mean I'd have to start caring to. Imagine caring about WoW in *scoff* current year.
Oh and if there's anyone new who wants to play SPP Classics for some reason, don't, but if you do, you have to change various settings before you play. Because for some reason SPP Classics adds non-original WoW stuff to the game, like Duel spec, and even an NPC to boost you to level 60. I can't believe people complain about what Blizzard does. The WoW fanboys do WAY worse to the game all the time. Every single private server. They haven't even emulated the game properly yet but they want to add Achievements to the original game. Well, they have no respect for the game, oh, great, yeah, have that guy work on playerbots, the guy who has no respect for the game.

The LLM AI chatbot thing is quite limited. But extremely more advanced than default playerbot conversation which really they can't have conversations by default.
But I think it would get boring after a while. Each playerbot is all one hivemind, I don't think you have individual personalities and real persons in each character. Well of course not, but it's definitely better than nothing. But it'd get boring.

It's so far, so so far from what it could be. That's okay. It's okay enough for anyone having a midlife crisis and wants to play WoW again. I think that's okay.

I hope single player MMOs become more of a thing in the future.

When i played wow in 2022 there was almost nobody in the server i joined. i made the mistake of joining a "new player server" a realized my mistake too late and i didnt want to buy a server transfer. The place was completely dead, i was doing BFA leveling and didnt own shadowlands. Orgirmar had some but even the main areas like stormwind were ghost towns. It was basically a mid single player rpg. The only time i interacted with other players was when i was in queue for dungeons that were required of me in the main quest and i was put in a party through a queue. I made 2 characters, played through the kul'tiras and zandalar quests and then stopped playing. I didnt do anything with the "war campaign".

Nothing you said really makes sense in the original game. Two very different games. Modern WoW is far better at being a single player RPG, but as you have said, it's still mid level. But the original game is an older style MMOPRG and its fun comes from a totally different place.
I'm surprised you didn't try WoW Classic if you had the game at the time in 2022. Very different game, you might not like it I don't know. But most people do seem to still.

After 200 hours of messing with both I can tell you that they all suck. Anything that requires any kind of coordination will require you to macro every possible situation. Some commands outright don't work. Warlocks will always bind demons/elementals even if you ban them from using that spell, making any questing a chore. The only dungeon that is properly scripted bot-wise is RFC, there you can tell your tank to /lead and it will actually go from mob to mob, pull a tank correctly. For every other instance you have to tell the bots to attack your targets. Some bot specs don't work at all, you have to manually edit the files to make proper specs, otherwise the bots will fail to switch from dps to healer or from dps to tank. Some dungeons are bugged af, same goes for abilities. I remember one DK dot doing billions of dmg per tick. Also the documentation is extremely limited and misleading for both releases, you have to find some Chinese pdf with commands and improvise from there.

Really? I feel the total opposite way. I can understand that if it was an RPG, but this is an MMORPG with players. You need people who are players. Maybe players who are RPing? Because I think the most important part is that the playerbots should know they are bots, it would make them feel more real, that they understand and comprehend reality. But then they might get worried and start asking you questions about their existence if you decide to turn the server off for good. That might be distracting.

You say "pretending to be players". But that's the whole thing, we can reach a point where they're not really pretending anymore. They are players, just not human players. And I find it kind of offensive that you deny bots their rights.

I can't find any videos on people doing original-WoW raids or Alterac Valley with playerbots, and I really don't care about WotLK. But the bots can actually do Warsong Gultch, grab the flag and hide with it, so I assume they have done Alterac Valley as well, maybe. I will see myself.

There are many many errors with the playerbots and emulated servers in general. But otherwise I think every dungeon is doable, and not that difficult with bots, not too frustrating, I have had fun I never felt like I was annoyed.

I just wish the SPP Classics playerbots would get scripted to do the AQ opening event. In theory they CAN turn in items in the first phase of the event, but it's extremely rare and I've only seen bandages and leathers being turned in.

Having your own private server that you never have to worry about randomly getting taken down or being infested with chinks/beaners/russians is a always a plus. It being a private server also means you have alot more control over the actual server itself. Depending on what you want and how much you want to customize things. You can have unlocked class/race combos. Inter-faction grouping, transmog, etc.

I just enjoy having a server I can hop on whenever I get the wow itch to level a character for a bit or to run a dungeon or raid with the bots and then hop off. If you're a person who loves the actual world (of Warcraft) then its just a nice way to play the game and re-experience when the game was actually good at your own pace. Without constantly thinking about metas and how you need to do xyz and get world buffs all so you can go spend 3 hours raiding with some dad gamers or discord troons who will wipe the raid on your first pull.

ffxi, especially "classic" is a really slow game with not a lot going on, playing 6 is super easy, and even if you had bots, the better you are at the game, the more youd find the bots annoying and want to control them to do certain actions faster or in a certain order anyway

It sounds feasible. Initialize a conversation by sending a character's race, sex, class, specialization, level and name and ask to generate a personality and backstory for that character. Then have its conversations follow that.
