You're severely underselling it and using excuses. Both are equally valid criticisms of the logistics in the world and make the characters look like fucking morons. Both are obviously only haphazardly written in the story to serve the gameplay purpose of having a hub that you go to between chapters. Both could have been easily remedied by better fucking non-amateurish writing.

The return to the monastery doesn't happen in-story. If Koei had more time to develop a temporary camp like Hopes had, it would be used in those chapters. The return to the monastery is purely for gameplay reasons.
The Somniel and how it functions is part of Engage's story, so its ABSENCE from the story is an issue, just like Byleth's time powers are. The Somniel is functionally an ability, a warp spell that everyone has and can use at any time. Therefore, it should be treated the same as Byleth's powers. And in that regard, it is SO MUCH WORSE. Because not only does everyone have it and nobody ever uses it when they should, but it's also everything you cry about in regards to the monastery. It's objectively worse.
