Everything related to Yasuke in the game was a clusterfuck. His gameplay, mechanics, story, side stories etc. They had to edit so much stuff including his relationships because they were willing to claim he was a real samurai, but the were NOT willing to even suggest that he fucked a historical princess (or was even romantic with one) because they knew it made the Japanese too goddamn mad. Him having varied gay zesty shit of course was just fine.
If Shadows just had him as a side character he could have been great. Thats what AC games always did with historical characters, but making him the protag, then making him superfluous in the game (Naoe can do everything and feels like an AC protag. Yasuke can only do loud combat and can't even get to certain areas. Who the fuck okayed this?!) , and then getting mad when people claimed he wasn't desirable and just called everyone heckin racist...sad as fuck. Also the whole Schmidt-Hori thing where they hired a literal scholar of ancient asian sex work and buddhist pederasty to be their story consultant makes no sense when those weren't even factors in the game...yet claimed it was the most historically accurate AC game ever and everything was really super accurate and honest. Fuck. What a waste.
If they cut Yasuke to a side character or even a DLC protag, brought back Yamanuchi Taka, etc.. they could have had a better game. Its amazing - Ghost of Yotei must really be shitty (or at least its main character) given people are now thinking that Shadows with Naoe was actually a better version of the story!
