They get shit on a lot but this one is genuinely really bad writing, Starfield.

There's a quest about dealing with the Terrormorphs, Starfield Deathclaws. You have 2 options, use their natural predator that doesn't consider humans food, that can be farmed and provide beat OR release a virus across the entire galaxy hoping it wipes out the Terrormorphs.
If you choose not to use the virus, every companion hates you for it and you're berated and told to "trust the science."

The retard that wrote this quest made a "trust the science" covid bullshit where trusting the science, is spreading out a virus across the galaxy. They wrote a fucking covid analogy where spreading covid was the good option.
It's by far the worst writing I've ever heard. It's one thing to make the analogy with the unscientific "trust the science" but it's another to be so incapable of writing that you write the analogy that is counter to your intentions.
It's so bad you have to wonder if it was intentional to criticise everyone pushing the vaccines.

From recent memory the ending for Hades 2 particularly stands out to me as being terribly written.
The Ignis DLC for FF15 is also atrociously bad, though the base game itself is fairly lacking.
Lightning Returns FF13 might be the most terribly annoying story I've had the displeasure of playing.

Worst writing is Dragon Quest VI on DS. Actual illegible gibberish.
Worst story is Final Fantasy XV where the plot is a 'bachelor party road trip' where your bros all get maimed and die, the bride dies then everyone else dies.
Dragon Quest XI has similar plot where your family dies, you're imprisoned, your town is destroyed, you help faggots, thieves and murdering drug addicts, kills off party member, etc.

i actually enjoy starfield but yes, my mind immediately jumped to that quest. another candidate would be the institute in fallout 4. they are the primary antagonists for much of the game, kidnapping your son and setting the entire thing in motion, and when you finally get to ask about why they did it and what their larger goals are, you are told "you wouldn't get it"

They aren't dating, there's no indication Susie is interested in Noelle romantically. Her purpose for spending time with Noelle in chapter 4 was to occupy her while Kris was searching for the shelter code in her house. That's not to say it can't progress to something in the future, but for the time being it's an entirely one-sided dynamic. So calling it a "ship" is retarded.

Fallout 4 is a good proposal.
Though I will maintain that Mass Effect 3's ending is the worst written thing in gaming history, the events leading up to the ending weren't nearly so bad so I can't say the game as a whole is as repugnant as Fallout 4 is on the whole.

The story ruins what would otherwise be a comfy shit dismantling/scrapping game.
It even locks you in your room with unskippable monologues for 5 straight minutes of some woman venting about how unfair working conditions are when the gameplay doesn't reflect the struggle at all. It only makes her and everyone else come across as incompetent.

I played this a while ago and don't quite remember the details, but I remember being frustrated about how stupid one of the sides was.
It's a post apocalyptic setting with various unruly warlords and violent bands roaming the world, vying for resources. You have a deal with a local leader (whose land seems quite stable in comparison to the rest of the world), that in exchange for your help bringing his kids to him, he'll send the rangers (your people) supplies to help them out. Then you're contacted by a rogue ranger who wants you to help them bring that leader down in a rebellion instead. As such, she directs you to his secret prison so that you witness how wicked he is. In the prison you find a former leader of a band of some cannibal raiders, who claims that many years ago this local leader paid them off so that they fuck off and direct their raids away from his lands. That's it. And that's why he's evil and needs to be overthrown apparently.
Maybe I'm misremembering something, because it sounds utterly retarded, but I recall thinking it was utterly retarded even back when I was playing.

I went into Colorado with the knowledge that I needed to obtain a stable supply of resources to ensure the survival of the Rangers and her short-sightedness was so unwelcome and annoying. I even ended up easily usurping the Patriarch by identifying and turning his power base (military and nobles), so that I could take over in a largely bloodless coup. It was kinda cool that acting like a rational person allowed my squad to fix the situation and prove how wrong and stupid the woman ranger was.

The Patriarch did a bunch of fucked up shit. Paying off gangs is among the more harmless things. If I'm not wrong dude gave prisoners to some psycho raider gang who would cut off people's limbs and stick them to a kite for some religious mumbo jumbo. It's understandable that he did what the thought he had to do, but it's still fucked up.
But the nice thing about the game is that even if he did all that fucked up shit, you can still go for a peaceful transition of power. You take over, he stands trial, he rots in jail while you end up controlling the region. You end up getting cheated out of a final boss fight but whatever, the game is easy enough anyway.
