They never capitalize on its momentum. Release a DQ, followed by like 7 years of nothing, release another DQ.
It took like 7 versions, but XI did well in the West. Then the Hero got into Smash, and a lot more eyes were on Dragon Quest, and what exactly did they do with all of that momentum? Nothing.
Release Gacha, only to EoS it after its 1st anniversary.
One low-budget spin-off after another. All look and run like shit.
Release these 3 games with the same HD2D Engine, which look lazy as fuck, especially since the Player Characters aren't animated.
Social Media channels? Dead silent as always. No motion.
Merch? JP only for the most part.
Any special Events or whatever? Nope.
Final Fantasy, hate it or love it, always has something that keeps it in people's minds. There's always a game, XIV or spin-off/gacha, that keeps people in the loop. Social Media is usually active, and merch actually makes it to the West.
It's not the 1990s anymore; the excuse that Square didn't promote DQ as much as FF in the 90s doesn't work when you fumble one release after another and you're too retarded for social media in 2020 onwards. Today's failures are their current choices.
Unless DQ can get its shit together and actually commit to something in the west, it will always end like this: Millions sold in JP, maybe 100k sold in the West, "the west just has no interest in DQ" said in interviews later.
