As I play through Ninja Gayden 2, I'm finding that the hardest thing about it is how much it tests my patience. I have to go through 3 hallways chargin scythe UTs for about 5 minutes before getting to a wave of extremely strong enemies that kill you in basically 2 hits that I don't know the attacks of, with no saves in between, essentially meaning I can't practice them, and every time I die I have to restart the whole thing as well as grab the same collectible key item I grabbed 20 times already and work my way back up to the door to the hallway do the same shit all over again, with any variation potentially jeopardising the attempt, meaning I have to do it all over again, and again, and again, and again. It's a good game but you have to have immense patience and really care about learning it otherwise you will have a very bad time.

I know there must be more to it, but there are spans of a mere second and a half to 2 second where so much shit goes on you just have to turn your mind off and give up because you'd have to be a superhuman to even know what the fuck happenned. You end up coming away from it being tought NOT to even engage but to hang back and use some kind o f bs tactic. I don't know where in this the game gets good. Play Sigma 2. It's unironically the better game, and balanced slightly better. The real NGpill is realising that the hardcore difficulty mostly comes from cheap shit and bad game design, and as you go up the difficulties there is a very small list of moves you can use, specifically, those with tons of damage, speed, and iframes, and nothing else, because the game is poorly balanced on both ends. Enemies are bullshit, so you have to rely on bullshit to deal with them.

It's a fun series, but stick to like, Hard. Also the Sigma games are just better overall, anyone saying otherwise is hard coping because the XBox systems had nothing else in the way of action games for eons.

For me it was just that the slowdown in the original versions and the elevation differences just fucked up so much I ended up hating it. It's "better" in Sigma, but like, not really, because while it runs fine for the most part there, the elevation differences still fuck up a bunch of your moveset.

The contrasts are pretty well known already honestly. Sigma has less enemies but gives them more HP/damage (I think damage), so it balances out and ends up being less annoying. It's still busted like NG2 is because as you climb difficulties the game is just bullshit spam VS bullshit spam, but less so because there's slightly less enemies on screen.

Not really a combo game, the mechanics are there but design wise at best you can tapdance on the last enemy left alive.

combos work differently here but you have more freedom than ever
you don't really rely on shuriken cancel any more. you can but it's weak and inferior. you can cancel attacks into specials which often cancel right back into attacks. it's more like dmc in that regard. they really want you to cycle specials in often and use bloodraven strings. i've seen people complain that they don't have the X hold Y string, but bloodraven XY does the same thing.
you can also dodge cancel recovery frames much earlier than you would normally recover. there's dodge offset and weapon switch offset along with it.
i think a single weapon here has more diverse options than ever. there's literally fewer strings but there's more options by tacking on a special or bloodraven move whenever. they're also extremely exaggerated which makes them better to use. on the default: 360Y hits an absolutely ridiculous area around you, back forward X is a crazy fast gap closer, back forward Y lets you OT someone from across the map. i find more utility in those as opposed to a lot of strings in the old games where their "advantages" were so slight i just ignored them and spammed the same few reliable moves instead.
also you finally have every weapon available at once, fixing the stupidest thing about the previous games

It's definitely not a game fully designed around juggles. An easy example of this is the Kage-Hiruko 360Y move - in a DMC game this would act like an airborne prop shredder, but in NG4 you just whack them downwards with no ability to cancel the last hit.
The fun in comboing is mixing up the command moves in short situational sequences, or playing with wallbounces. Kage-Hiruko's BR bombs allow for some creative setups as well, but extended juggles will just get you anti aired/blocked.
I was disappointed that so many BR moves are just multi hit spinning animations though. They could have been a bit more creative, like Hammer causing ground shockwaves, etc.

Man, NGB feels good to play the encounters and some bosses are okay but some are such dogshit. Alma 1, Alma 2, Marbus really test the limits of Ryu's vehicle-like movement. Flying swallow becoming increasingly useless as the difficulty increases was a horrible choice for these fights, having to passively sit there and wait to do the same attack after the same string over and over again trying to keep Ryu jumping in the right direction all throughout is so frustrating.

Teasing is just how she likes to socialize, and Yakumo in particular is fun for her to tease. It's less her taking Ryu seriously and more her being miserable during her time with him, while on the other hand Yakumo gave her hope for herself and for the future. She's more confused, but grateful for Ryu going through such great length for her sake.

Finally finished the game, that was so fun. The last fight was fucking great too, but the speed + DLSS + the billion vfx (+ rain) made it so hard to actually see what's going on.

But the amount of people on leaderboard and game clears is low. How the fuck are there so many "NG experts" when the stats show that the amount of people who are good at NG is very, very few?

Does anyone know how exactly the Hammer buff you get from the Sanzeon NG+ mission works? How can bloodbind buildup during bloodraven increase if bloodbind is stopped during bloodraven? It seems pretty powerful combining both the one you get from NG+ and the one that you get on trials, since the trials one counters the weakness of the NG+ one, but testing I'm not getting any buildup, let alone extra.

The modifiers for combat trials aren't particularly fun. 1 hit death and the blood executions permanently on are very repetitive modifiers and I just find myself abusing the game to scrape by the times for health constantly draining trials. I hope we get a survival mode like in 2 with the dlc.

You can do an auto OT after the sword's running X if it delimbs by holding down the stick towards the original running X direction and then holding down Y. Ryu and Yakumo have seperate health pools and upgrades on a first run. I think that Ryu will have more than Yakumo does by that point even at base, since some of Yakumo's health upgrades are ng+ only.

Overall I think this game was great. I still prefer NG2 when it comes to its HIGHS, as in chapter 1, 2 and 11. But as a overall game NG4 is better, it doesn't have the lows of the other games and for the first time in the series it has ACTUALLY good boss fights.

One complaint I have is it feels the game almost gives you TOO MANY options for moves, I ended up just picking a few I liked with a weapon and sticking to them. And for parries it's like you have THREE different ones with different extensions off a parry, it's a lot to a point of being overwhelming. Even though I beat the game I never felt like I even got the hang of parrying

The staff does shit damage but attacks multiple people at once, so it’s good for dealing with mobs of weak guys.

The rapier is the opposite, and does good damage against one target at a time, so it’s good against taking out tough sponges enemies. It also locks them in place. Like its name suggests, it is literally used to rape an enemy to death. I personally hate the way this one looks. Doesn’t feel very ninja.

The two swords are nice in between and the best feeling of the whole bunch. They’re also the best to use against bosses because the bloodbath shuriken goes far and is unleashed quickly so it’s incredibly easy to parry/interrupt the reattach with it.

It gets worse the more you play it. You get more boss fights towards the end and not a single one is good in the entire game. You also get more big fiend enemies and else ninjas, and you can’t throw itzune drop them of you just end up spamming flying swallow or UT. Finished this slop on mn. This mn is alin to sigma artificial difficulty. They just give enemies atrocious damage increase, most of enemies have a 2-shot but every elite and boss can 1-shot. Anyway I went back to play og ng2. I got the same feeling when I beat ng2 and went back to ngb. Everything felt slow, my inputs had weight. Better level design. Better enemy placement and variety of enemies. The group of enemies implemented multiple enemies that counteract each other weaknesses. Way more enemies, needless to say I was unable to play mn on ng2. Had to go to my mentor save and I was still struggling. I actually had to think. Ng4 I didn't have to keep track of enemy positions because they are more passive than ng2 acolyte enemies. Ng4 made me worse at ng. Ng4 mission mode and purgatory is also utter dog shit compared to ng2 counterparts

Itagaki's design philosophy, that you can dispatch enemies quickly to suppress the threat they pose but there's a lot of them so choose your actions wisely feels much better than wailing on one guy until you have enough meter to kill him. The meter completely kills the pace if the combat because every second you don't have it and there isn't essence on the ground for an ET/UT you have to play very defensively. With NGB or NG2 every enemy felt balanced and had a distinct weakness, so if it was tanky it was limited in its range, or its numbers on screen or what have you And you are equally capable at all times. You didn't have this pseudo stamina bar gating you from using moves that actually dealt damage.

Razor's Edge. I enjoy all 4 games about equally, but 3RE's steel on bone, cicada surge, bosses, ost and dragon sword moveset put it just above the rest. You can get randomly fucked by the boss just deciding to rush you down when you think you're safe.

A lot of bloodbind moves have built in attack deflection during their damage animation, like all bloodbind heavies. Drill can be used to autoblock in a very small arc while shredding one or more enemies, and you occasionally get bloodbind parries off of it.

Don't forget you can dodge offset normal chains into bloodbind chains, so X X dodge RT + Y is the fastest way to get the big dick combo ender.

Drill bloodbind A is a guaranteed launcher.

Drill is the best boss killer in the game especially when you start abusing the auto deflect properties. Just remember your perfect dodge Y counter launches you.

I was wondering what was wrong with Yakumo when using the dragon blade, turns out unlike Yakumo, Ryu can cancel almost anything out with a Wind Run a lot faster, which opens up combo timing a lot more but I still haven't managed to land this one combo and catch an enemy in the air, it seems easier to pull off if the enemy is elevated after the initial wind path jump.
