I was really worried the market would have the same problem in eu5 but it's more abstracted, the automation works (for trade anyway), and min/max on goods produced is fine because the abstract "control" is more important to your bottom line anyway. Big and small countries should be fun this way, and it makes sense to have a highly devved heartland even in an expansive empire.

No, trade is finicky to begin with and the ai is alright at buying low and selling high. You can do it manually but there doesn't seem to be a good reason. And again, control matters more for the price of goods in various provinces anyway.

Jesus fucking Christ our resurrected saviour and all the old gods too, this game is A LOT more detailed than any other. I'm just going to spend tonight looking through menus and the map. Probably wont unpause until the weekend or so.
So many things to decide and think about.. Like what language my court should use, the language of the common plebs, or the language of some sophisticated foreign culture? Should I let my cabinet members marry the king's widowed mum? Or send them to become monks? And that's just a teeny tiny part of the government menus.
Feels like they merged EU+CK+Vicky into a monster game.

lack of mission trees makes it really fucking boring and gives you no longterm goals outside of do this because i want to
it makes playing colonization countries like portugal and spain even more boring early than they were in EU4 combined with the earlier start date makes early game ibera even more a fucking snoozefest than it already was
the UI is hot fucking garbage and feels like it was designed for a phone instead of a computer
keybinds have randomly been changed like now all mapmodes are a CTRL+NUMBER instead of the A-Z keys like they were in EU4
most if not all of the mapmodes outside of trade, diplomacy and forts are fucking useless because they consist of info you'll never need to see at a global scale
also they decided to put a giant button at the bottom of the screen telling you what mapmode you're in for every mapmode except the default terrain one which is really fucking annoying and adds to the UI bloat
theres an overwhelming amount of information in the tooltips that either isn't nested or is Capitalized Like This to imply that it means something but there's nothing that explains what it is

Newly conquered provinces have 0 control so they don't add anything to your nation.
To increase control you first need to core them with a cabinet member one province at a time.
You can core only provinces with majority pop that is accepted.
So you can blob but it takes way more time to intergrade new lands.
Unintegrated lands will revolt in time.

CK2 and CK3 are very similar games. The main difference is the breadth of content, really.

No, first of all casus bellis take effort and require parliament or spy networks, manpower is completely different (more like ck2) so sieges are VERY risky, you don't even want low control land outside your culture, unless you already have cores integrating takes time, and then convert religion/culture are separate ends of a slider so you'll be good at one and not the other unless they're balanced, and badboy climbs higher and faster with coalitions being even more of a problem than in 4.

also what's with the mapgame obsession over the past few years of putting the government type in a country's name? Its weird to have AI doing random shit in a country simulator like this.
I know the AI didn't go out of its way to actually get missions done in 4, but they still used the benefits like CBs and claims to grow in a way that somewhat fit the nations themselves and helped shape an endgame setup that was more than just a noise map.

I'm enjoying it, but then again one of my biggest gripes in EU4 were the missions, once they became bloated and overpowered. Started as Holland with a simple goal of dominating the Spice Trade and so far I have been able to move towards that goal exactly as I wanted to and at the pace I desired.
Map painters and missionfags lose, true creative GSG chads and RPers win.

>tall/wide has nothing to do with missions
im not talking about playing tall or playing wide, im talking about missions making playing smaller tags viable in the mid/late game
right now in eu5 every european nation plays exactly the same because none of them have any guidance on a worthwhile playstyle
keyword GUIDANCE and not railroading or pigeonholing
you do not need to play exactly by your mission tree when playing as riga, hansa or bavaria in eu4 but if you want your campaign to last more than 150 years before youre eclipsed then you are encouraged to do so
it is not mandatory, it is guidance
eu5 has no guidance meaning there is no way for smaller tags (human and ai) to try and remain playable vs bigger tags at the start date
it looks like theres already a missions framework in the game though so hopefully modders can fix what paradox has failed to do yet again

lots of games like this, wide as an ocean with 500+ civilizations or whatever to choose from yet most play the exact same with minor tweaks. crippled by underwhelming AI that cannot strategize.
lots of these long-campaign games (total war, rimworld) suffer the exact same thing: the campaigns are so long that you just get bored of nothing happening. you start to fast forward/end turn to hopefully get to the 'good part' only for it to never arrive, as the battles/events that occur are just scaled-up tedium rather than interesting strategic encounters.

it's ultimately the fault of poor AI programming in all of these games. the AI fails to create interesting believable scenarios. it's either the AI is too stupid to play properly, or the AI receives cheat-codes and you receive debuffs (difficult modes) in order to cope around the lack of thinking AI. and so the 'challenge' becomes cranking the difficulty mode to max, memorizing an encyclopedia's worth of exploits, and trying to execute them in order properly like a chess opening to see if you can dig yourself out of a '500x IMPOSSIBLE' scenario.

poor AI is always the weak point for these 8000+ hour singleplayer games, so many games with the exact same issue.

>some reviews say it's complete repetitave garbage

So which is it? obviously, the reviews about multiplayer and pc specs I ignored. I planned for this to be my first GSG. Obviously "trying" it out. What am I in for?

Seems to me the people that refuse to engage the game and automate it don't have fun, people that are going through every single aspect are having fun by virtue of being overwhelmed and learning to play.

Incredible how people who haven't even played a full campaign yet are here telling you how hard / easy / deep / fun the game is

Yes, I'm sure anon who has watched 10 minutes of a review fully understands the mechanics.

I plan to learnt to play but I feel like these GSG will have the same fate as 4x games where after a run of two everything feels the same and your leader/nation/factions etc just end up being cosmetics. With that being said there are tons of GSG so if I do end up liking this I can try out any of the others. I've tried HoI4 but just being dropped in was daunting and i ended up uninstalling but I'll give this a proper go.

I can play it now with no stakes involved so why wouldn't I?

There was one review with like 200+ hours roasting the game but he was getting called out in the comments on steam, not sure what to believe.

Are you running it on a 1060 or something? I know it's not the prettiest game but it looks like absolute shit on your machine.

there are at least 50 other games like this, i guarantee whatever fun elements this game has are shared with the rest of those, same with all the issues.
