No games is a fun comment that always gets a smile out of me. While sure you’ll get fewer indies on Xbox and PlayStation most of the fotm ones eventually find there way, Enshrouded and Last Epoch for example. Either console (Switch excluded) gets the vast majority of games released today that matter. What you mean you say is you being pc gamer don’t have a reason to play elsewhere, valid but look at it like this. Someone with no Steam account or pc is going to find a console the most frictionless way to play most games as pretty much everyone already has a tv all they need is the box. When you look at mainstream games there’s very little only pc gets.
Subscription for online play is annoying considering how much of our daily lives are controlled by the internet, movies, tv, music and in many ways games. If Microsoft is able to shed it successfully in the future that might apply pressure to Sony and Nintendo but I’m not overly optimistic. Essentials was the only tier I used and found it pretty good but Premium for time limited trials was a skip. I will likely pick up another ps5 or Steam Deck this holiday after a disastrous switch to Xbox earlier this year, no Steam account or pc so I’m on the fence considering I’m not a fan of indies or metroidvanias. Megabonk looks as bad as Terraria did but that was on a big screen maybe it would be more tolerable on a small one.
Mods are nice for sure but I rarely beat a game and feel the need to replay it simply because of mods, they are fun for texture swaps and in some cases extending a game’s length (Xcom) but usually move on by then.
Also individual games can ban you but I’ve only heard of extreme cases where charge banks occurred getting your account nuked. Again account not the machine, Steam I’m sure has account banned ppl in the past for one reason or another. Is it that hard to not be a dick online? Steams refund policy is top tier though all digital storefronts should aim to mirror it.
