FFVII Remake is built on a heavily customized version of UE4, Square Enix probably ported the engine to Switch 2 themselves.

One thing that is definitely contributing to this is the fact that tariffs and market conditions have increased the value proposition of the NS2. Even if they raised the price from the original NS, it's still the cheapest console on the market with the most exclusives, and the 84% of people returning from the original NS are likely doing so to keep their existing Nintendo library. The 16% of newcomers know that the Switch has a huge library already so they're effectively getting two consoles in one with the backwards compatibility. The PS6 will likely be more expensive and we already know the new Xbox will be too. If the NS2 is already cheaper than the PS5 and Xbox Series X in 2025, it's a no brainer purchase.

The NS2 has all the makings of a PS2-style success, I won't be surprised if it surpasses PS2 sales in a few years if the NS1 doesn't.

The problem Sony have if you will is that this handheld is slated for late 2027, with the current momentum Switch 2 will have built a massive install base at that point, an install base third parties will want to sell their games to, meaning the install base momentum Switch 2 will have built up will have reached such a mass that the PS portable will barely affect it at that point. Switch 2 will at that point continue to get new mega games from their big IP like Pokemon, Zelda, Mario etc as well as many of the big third party releases, as well as costing much less than the PS handheld. And in any case the Switch 3 will then be released with better specs than the PS handheld some years later which makes the PS handheld even less relevant.

For Sony to try to meaningful alter Switch 2 sales, they would have needed to release in closer proximity to Switch 2, now that Switch will be at over 50M+ sales at that late 2027 period, that just means that Switch 2 will already have built up a critical install base mass, with third parties more eager than ever to port their games to it. Meaning PS handheld will mostly cater to people that are deeply invested in Sony first party games, while Nintendo can appeal to a broader spectrum due to stuff like Pokemon being more popular than any PS IP

I've never been too much of a Nintendo fan. Growing up I had a GameCube, a Wii, and a DS but I only really enjoyed Nintendo games on the DS. For the most part, I was a PlayStation kid and then a 360 kid.
As someone who is coming from the perspective of other consoles (and PC gaming for like 15 years), the Switch1/Switch2 library is actually pretty great. Xenoblade, FE, Metroid, Bayonetta, Astral Chain, etc, are all pretty great on the Switch. Some of these games would've been best sellers on a PlayStation console 20 years ago. Nintendo has done a good job diversifying their IPs. It's the market leader for weeb games, and JRPGs these days.
Sony abandoning their reputation as a weeb console after the PS3 did irreparable damage to the brand, weeb games were what saved the Vita.

Unless you were a superfan who completed every new release on the Switch 1 as they were coming out there's a pretty good chance the Switch 1's library can tide you over while you wait for specific franchises to release. Mario Kart, Donkey Kong, Pokemon, and Metroid are the lineup for the first six months. Splatoon has a new game announced and a Switch 2 edition for Splatoon 3, Zelda has a musou and traditionally long dev times but the Switch 1 has like ten Zelda games to choose from, and Mario is in a similar position as Zelda but the Odyssey team just finished up with Donkey Kong so there's something similar already out.

Ok, cool. Expect that to slow down to half or a quarter when there aren't any games to get hyped for. All but one (Rollslopblood) of the the highly anticipated vidya are all out by the end of this year.
