Modern movies, aimed at younger audiences, aren't really made to tell stories. I watched a few with my nieces, and holy shit, what a disaster. These movies are made by marketing teams and psychologists who apply "formulas" they consider most appealing to younger minds, and that's it.
The result is a bunch of "funny" little things that follow one another without any substance.
The Mario movie falls into this category. The hope for fans of Nintendo franchises is that they are targeting a slightly older audience this time around.

If we they would've announced the child actors playing young Link and young Zelda, alongside the announcement of Bo Bragason and Benjamin Evan Ainsworth being their adult counterparts - but we didn't.
Instead - everything hints at this being either an original story which will likely be a slop hodgepodge of basic Zelda tropes and references slapped together, or a loose pseudo-adaptation of BoTW and ToTK.

And honestly, I would rather not get an OoT live adaptation anyway because everything from their choice of movie studio, to the producer, to the director and screenwriter - indicates this will be absolute slop and only mediocre at best.

No, they went with live-action because Nintendo's still stuck in that 90's mindset which believes PG-13 rated animation can't and won't sell in the west, so they opted with live-action due to the relatively successful track record of live-action Disney adaptations and whatnot.
