The older I get the more teh realization hits on why we keep seeing things like communism and why reboots are still a thing instead of new IPs. The past basically doesnt exist to the previous generation. These are people that were born with Fortnite, and are still playing Fortnite, we will never understand them.

you know despite this happening pretty frequently in the medium there's very few times where it has actually taken me out of the experience. off the top of my head there's the infamous dark souls 2 pile of rubble forcing you to fight the strongest beings in the land to circumvent, and any ledge in the new God of Wars that Kratos could easily jump up. I think my brain just accepts the nonsense in any survival horror context because genre tropes

so? its a vidya gayme.
Have you ever shot a lock with a gun? 100% chance of success in games, IRL it wont do anything but you will be most likely struck by shrapnel or rebounding metal. The bullet will crumple before the lock does and the resulting shards are most likely going to kill you for trying
youd be better off shooting the door itself and seperating the lock from it.
and yet, in games, its basically the go-to solution, because games arent real.
Anonymous No.725101026 [Report] >>725101235 >>725101310

I wish more games would reward players for thinking outside the box.
Like if you can't open a door without a key, but you have a gun or a melee weapon strong enough to break the handle, lock or door itself then you can open it, even if it skips content, let the player do it and make it work somehow.
Don't have a knife to cut a piece of shitty tape? jam something else and peal it by force.
Can't jump over something cause...well you just can't. Well stack something and jump over it.
Can't reach a key without tongs? fucking use something else, you can make it, you stupid bitch.

Obviously it's more work for something that might not be discovered by most, but it would still be cool option for those that can figure it out or for future playthroughs

sounds good on paper but youve put zero thought into this, so the monkeys paw will fuck you, this always ends badly
>the dev spends time autistically thinking of "out of the box" skips
>if the dev misses literally anything, you get complaints of inconsistency
>if the dev misses nothing, then 70% of the dev time is spent on the same content working in different solutions to one area or puzzle, ergo making the game feel short and also being irrelevant to people who only needed one solution then move on
>the dev still wants to be paid for their time, so the game feels overpriced
>"but muh replay value" doesnt work because no one cares that you can skip even MORE content by doing some thing you didnt consider once
>90% of the devs efforts will be wasted as 90% of the player base wont even discover the autism they went through

why bother? just get the key.

who cares, should be obvious it's for main path stuff, not every door.
>if the dev misses nothing, then 70% of the dev time is spent on the same content working in different solutions to one area or puzzle, ergo making the game feel short and also being irrelevant to people who only needed one solution then move on

don't care
>"but muh replay value" doesnt work because no one cares that you can skip even MORE content by doing some thing you didnt consider once
arguing with yourself
>90% of the devs efforts will be wasted as 90% of the player base wont even discover the autism they went through
if I ignore all the people who love exploring, experimenting, speedrunners, role playing, content creators, replayers, 100%ters, atmosphere fags, etc, etc, etc, now your point makes sense.
>why bother? just get the key.
