I agree OP, I prefer the weightier, slower combat of KH1. I also vastly preferred the level design and bosses. KH2 had too much backtracking and the combat had less "oomph", not to mention Olympus Coliseum was way way worse in KH2. Although Auron was absolutely sick in KH2. Man, the FF characters are a perfect representation of why I prefer KH1 over KH2.
Cid works on your GummiShip and sells you ship parts
>He's the fucking mechanic
Leon is the cool-guy you fight and aspire to be like.
Aerith hands you the Rumbling Rose and gives you the final send-off at Hollow Bastion. Cloud was being manipulated ((just like FF7) and had the coolest design), Yuffie made my pp hard, and Sephiroth was the final super secret endboss. Every single FF character has a strong purpose, a REASON for existing in KH1. KH2 is far less powerful. When I learned Sonic Blade from Cloud it felt impactful, meaningful, that Cloud gave Sonic Blade to me. I barely remember learning fira from Leon in KH2 (I think)? Zero impact. Bastion Restoration committee?
Only Auron escaping from Hell felt meaningful. fighting Cerberus with Auron in Hell was fucking sick in KH2. Well, the Gullwing keyblade was also neat. Otherwise the FF characters in KH2 were shoehorned in, they served no purpose. Oh, and Wakka/Tidus/Selphie being on Destiny Islands was also masterfully done in KH1.
KH3 isn't even worth discussing.
KH1>KH2 for the FF character's implementation alone.

KH2's magic was abysmal for me to get through, KH1's magic felt far better to use, even abusing aeroga "WIND" felt better every fight. Maybe I'm just biased towards Bambi and summons in general. Summons in KH2 felt like ASS to me.
