It's not going to be half life 3. It's going to be another prequel or side story. This one will take place in Xen, that's why it's HLX. And it will probably feature gravity distortion and gravity manipulation mechanics. I believe it will launch with valves new VR headset thing which I will be buying to play Half Life Alyx and Half life Xen on. As well as to use it as a virtual desktop screen.

Where is all this nov/dec announcement stuff coming from? Lot of anons nowadays don't even know about Valve Time and actually thought HL3 would be announced at the VGAs, denoting a strong lack of knowledge on how Valve operates (I suspect by people who got into videogames in the last 10 years).

We know from the leaks that it's flatscreen. Also, Valve knows that fans are expeting HL3 instead of another spin-off after Alyx and I don't think they'd want to dissappoint them like that. HLX shouldn't be taken as any kind of indication of what the game will be called. It's just a codename. Alyx was HLVR.

Well, yeah, obviously I know what happened with episode 3, but I'd say this is different. They didn't consciously say "fuck the fans let's actually not make it and leave them with a cliffhanger". They tried to make ep3, but couldn't make it good enough, then felt it had been too long and an episode was no longer enough and dropped it. If they made another spin-off now, it would be a conscious decision to do that instead of HL3, despite knowing what the fans are expecting and how they'd react.

That would give the game a 10-year long dev cycle. I don't think it needs that long. Especially since we know it's basically finished and in the polish and optimization stage right now.
