the game has been out for one day and it's exclusive to a console most people are too poor to own. ask in a week when all 5 people here who bought it are done playing it.

Game is 10/10. Gameplay is fun ASF and the characters all do their part in the story even if everyone besides the 4Sages/Zonai&Zelda get less screentime.

The mook allies who end up joining as playable all have decent movesets that are original. (I think we should have more licensed musous with playable OCs so we can go ball to the wall with movesets.)

Basically 4chan yet again doesn't like anything. Oh well.

As a character? They barely do anything with her other than make you question why Rauru's even in charge. She spends most of the game basically tardwrangling him and the few times he doesn't listen to her all end in disaster. But as a result of that she doesn't really get much development of her own, she's just sort of there most of the time saying "Hey Rauru maybe we should do X".
To play as? Actually pretty fun from what I've seen. I dunno I'm not buying the game because they didn't actually flesh her out that much and it's also all I really cared about.

In the other big Zelda Hyrule Warriors Age of Imprisonment someone posted "dude story in a Zelda game!? lmao". That's the type of retard that doesn't get tone, story, themes, and other writing tools to make a compelling narrative. Example The Lords of the Rings has subplots with a lot of characters but the actual overarching narrative is bad guy is bad because he just is and the orcs are bad because they just are. And it works because the tone maintains consistency across 3 books/films. Fairy tales are fairly simple but timeless literature works. Pixar's movies were simple but they connected with a lot of people, same as Studio Ghibli movies. Simplicity isn't a crime when it comes to storytelling, world building, narrative, tone, etc.

A lot of people like myself tolerated Breath of the Wild's story and tone because it was vague enough that it didn't really throw out the rest of the franchise. Now Tears of the Kingdom has what I can confidently say NEAR ZERO PERCENTAGE CONTINUITY WITH BREATH OF THE WILD. Nothing in TOTK matters because close to nothing in BoTW is addressed head-on. This is something coming out of a player with hundreds of hours in both games, ToTK was afraid of alienating newcomers with lore and it also went out of its way to not address questions it posed like the giant leviathan skeleton remains. Which are also in ToTK surrounded by treasure chests of past Link tunics, no lore why any of that like that. I'm not begging for a deeper Ganon, but the writers ultimately didn't care to maintain continuity, tone, or world building so I don't care about Hyrule Warriors AoI. If I want a fun fan service Zelda game I'll go Hyrule Warriors Definitive Edition and play as Link's sister Linkle. Hopefully this shit flops and we get followup with more fanservice characters in Hyrule Warriors 2 proper sequel. There's no lore in BoTW/ToTK so they can skip those.

Does Ganondorf ever talk about his mom in this game? Is there a mother-son climatic drama of her being forced to put down her son? Or was that not allowed because the anti-story Zelda people won again...damn you Shigeru Miyamoto. I don't know how Rosalina survived Mario Galaxy with that anti-story guy around. Ganon could have easily be written in a prequel setting (Hyrule Warriors AoI) as a politically savvy conqueror like Alexander the Great who riled up other tribes to revel against sky people calling themselves kings of the land. Tears of the Kingdom has shit world building on top of its bad continuity with Breath of the Wild. We don't have to drag the other Zelda games down with it. Majora's Mask and Wind Waker are both sequels to Ocarina of Time and they don't feel disconnected at all from their direct predecessor. There are literally flashbacks to OoT in MM. The sages and the past Link are represented in TWW. The gigantic robotic spiders are like World War 2 era landmines in the world of Breath of the Wild and no one even talks about their absence which is so bizarre. I get why they disappear, they needed to replace them with their new super secret hidden society Zonai, but it was very poorly executed. The narrative/story/characters of ToTK suck, without having to talk about the overarching Zelda timeline.

It's implied in TotK. What's an actual retcon and makes no sense is the Zonai constructs having wiped out most of the Zonai being an explanation for why Mineru and Rauru are the last two... even thought that also happened thousands of years before either of them were born. I can think of a million reasons for why that might have eventually led to them being reduced to the last two, like the population collapse making them vulnerable to war and gradually being out competed over the millennia, but in game they say that it's directly the fault of the constructs and leave it at that.

And for the record something similar happens in TP climax, but the other way around. Ganondorf acknowledges the cycle and the history written in blood but instead of graciously dying as a man who gave his all and lost he insists he will return and keep perpetuating the cycle of violence. This cycle is what Demise mentions in japanese SS (what NoA translated as "curse"), the violence inflicted by Hylia into the demon tribe and vice versa and the manifestation of that karma appearing to bring chaos to the goddess' land and tribe. The cycle keeps going and there will always be an avatar of this hatred appearing to cause discord, the difference between TWW and the other timelines is that in TWW Ganondorf steps aside and dies for good, making a new demon king appear (Malladus) to act as this avatar of chaos the universe brings to the hylians.
Thematically, TWW broke the cycle thanks to Ganondorf and Daphnes so while the universe still works as before the villain, the kingdom and even the holy sword are different, while the other timelines are still stuck with the same stuff as before because Ganondorf doesn't want to give up and either is resurrected or straight up reincarnated to keep trying to destroy what the goddess created.

If there's anything AoI fixed about TotK, it's Zelda's line about Ganondorf's name. I actually love the concept of the depths. Needing to farm enough light flowers and use them sparingly as you run low is cool. Never knowing what you might find in this pitch black area leads to some spooky moments like going through the hell version of the lost woods or running into a Frox for the first time was super spooky. But there's not enough unique landmarks or enemies so after 1 hour you've pretty much seen most of it.

First, TotK effectively smothered all interest and hype in the worldbuilding of nu-Zelda, something Age of Calamity ultimately relied on, and is arguably a wet blanket on the coals burning from BotW at large.
Second, the aspect of TotK's story that is the most memable talking head point was the basis of the game

This would be like making a spinoff of Final Fantasy 10, focused on the bad laughing scene specifically.
Third, Age of Calamity was already a step down and disappointment compared to OG HW. People were naturally going to be a little more cautious about its sequel.
Fourth, the roster consists almost entirely of Glup Shittos. A Glup Shitto or two can be fun, and open up a roster to very interesting playstyles. An entire roster of them is just bizarre, and means tbe game loses the entire "I know who that is!" audience.
Fifth. Nobody actually gives a single fuck about Rauru, the Zonai, or anything else set up by TotK, complete independently of people's loss of interest from BotW. Rauru is not an interesting character. The Zonai are not an interesting people.
And Sixth, it's hip to shit on Nintendo right now, whether for justified reasons or not. The Nintendo Bonus is at an all-time low point in value.

Frankly, this game was doomed at the conception stage, to the point that what is actually in the game is irrelevant. It could be the single best warriors game ever released mechanically, and the circumstances surrounding it would leave it lukewarm at best, with a small cohort of die hard fans. It is not the best musou ever released, so the response is dead cold. It needed to just be different. It should have been OG HW meets the Age of Calamity crew, featuring like the seven relevant characters in this game. Plus John Hyrule, he's cool. I don't know, anything but this.

I understand the basic concept. You have the rails you put cars on to move around, and get to the things to open the main door. Fair enough basic concept.
I have no idea what the fuck the intended route or method of traversing the Fire Temple is. I have played through TotK 3 separate times, and every time I have fallen off whatever the intended path is almost instantly, and wound up just cheesing it through usual, or unusual suspects. I have TRIED to figure out what the intended route is, TRIED to figure out what the intended solutions to obstacles are, and cannot find it. The other three don't have this problem the same way, there's a pretty clear intended path you can deviate off from or do out of order, but a few of the shrines have it, where I simply do not comprehend what the intended solution to the problem is, but see like twelve ways of breaking it. Is one of those the intended method? Is there even an intended method?

I don't actually think it is, and it's buzzwordy as hell, but some aspects of TotK FEEL AI generated, in terms of "this is a problem/space/dungeon shaped piece of content, assembled by someone who has no idea what they are actually doing but has been shown several examples, and so long as a playtester was able to complete it, that was good enough to ship".
