I've liked Dark Souls 2 the most ever since I played it on release. I still remember getting up in the middle of the night and going to Walmart for the midnight release because I wholly anticipated physical copies would run out and I wanted the SE with the metal case.
I found some poor guy in the electronics section and asked him to find me a copy of the game since I couldn't find it anywhere, and he told me he wasn't able to sell it since they were still in boxes and wouldn't be stocking them until the morning. After literally begging with the guy to just sell it to me, he finally gave in just so I could fuck off and I went home to play through the game until morning.
That experience coupled with the playtime immediately following it has stuck with me years later, as it was both magical and emotional to me, with Dark Souls 2 living up to the hype I placed onto it.
I never beat Dark Souls 3 as I found it boring, nor have I bothered to begin Elden Ring's DLC for similar reasons, but I've played and replayed Dark Souls 2 for hundreds of hours trying out different builds and doing PvP. So when I look online and see people both harp about how much they love Dark Souls 2 but then mention Scholar of the First Sin, or how terrible Dark Souls 2 was, it just makes me realize I have the best taste on /v/ and the rest of you faggots are trash.

It is absolutely a minority opinion, or the game wouldn't have sold as well as it did. It's not a masterpiece but it's a fun game and it does what it came to do. People that sit here and bitch about it never name a game that makes a proper comparison to hold it to as a standard. Okay I can concede to that, at least there was some design theories to giving you some choice. I always wanted more from Nintendo games though. Especially something like Zelda. I want to choose which part of the triforce to use, I want to be leader of the Gerudo by conquest, and I want to be able to seal Ganon away without actually killing him, so he can never come back. I also don't want anything to do with Zelda, I want a gerudo wife. Of course, all of this is asking a lot from a Nintendo game, which is primarily targeted to a different crowd. A different culture entirely really, since they are a Japanese company. I really just wish there was a company that had that whimsy fantastical design that Nintendo has managed to maintain, but with all of the modern concepts of choice of the player integrated. Those games are rare, I think Fable, dragon's dogma, and Elden Ring were really the last ones I cared about. They weren't fantastical enough for me though. I don't really care for baldur's gate.

Understandable, at that time as I recall square was trying to be very experimental . I feel that way about I think it was 12 or something? There were a few fantasy titles that I just absolutely hated. They started steering away from fantastical elements and kind of stuck to these streamlined pseudo-fantasy coats of paint over very mundane games. My absolute favorite was final fantasy 6, just because it feels like that was the Magnum opus of their true fantasy style. 7 was unmistakably excellent, but it started going into a more realistic direction at that point, in my opinion.

Tears of the Kingdom is genuinely one of the worst mainline Zelda games. Breath of the Wild had a ton of potential but desperately required internal expansion/fleshing out. TotK instead chose to prioritize expanding outward, exacerbating BotW's characteristic of being "wide as an ocean, deep as a puddle" by barely deepening the puddle while expanding the width. Yes, the fuse mechanics are very impressive on a technical level, but the game doesn't do much to encourage clever or engaging use of them. If you have to go out of your way to creatively make your own fun in a game that's part of an adventure series, that's a really bad sign that you don't understand the series you're making the game for.

Trigger warning for third-worlders since I'm about to use an oh-so scary food metaphor: BotW is a steak that has an excellent taste with different complex flavors that work together in harmony, but it doesn't have as much meat on the bone as you'd like. TotK is that same steak reheated in the microwave six days later with two big scoops of gourmet chocolate ice cream dumped on top, and while it's very well-made chocolate ice cream, it has no business being on a steak. Pokemon used to be good. It wasn't always secretly just as bad and lazy as it is now. Gen 1 sparked Pokemania on its own without any anime or manga or merchandise required, those just made it an even bigger phenomenon.

none, because i know my opinions are better than the rest of /v/ and i carry my head high
but i think my most contentious opinion is that the difficulty, level curves, and enemy trainer comps in pokemon games are completely irrelevant (they’re all baby mode easy) and totally secondary to atmosphere and tone, as well as the sense of adventure and actual rpg decisions. i LIKE having to carefully choose who i give tms to, having to balance battle moves with field moves, and other little rpg things like that.
anyway, gold and silver are the best pokemon games.

Animal Crossing New Horizons isn't even a good dollhouse simulator, if that's what we're calling it. Fallout 4 unironically beats NH at being a dollhouse sim.
