1) All AAA studios do not believe racing games will sell unless they have big brand cars.

2) Manufacturers of big brand cars do not like their big toys getting smashed up because it tells people they're "unsafe" when a car naturally turns into spaghetti when hitting a tree at 200mph and folds like shit.

If I remember from past threads: The car naturally ramps up on its own, but they thought it'd be okay if they just held the brakes down the entire time for their little test drive. The brakes then failed because they were being run down. So now you have a car without brakes that naturally wants to ramp up.

vanilla racing games have never featured extensive crash detail, it's not just a modern thing. licensors won't ever agree to it and its foreign to the presentation of most of those games. the likely answer to your question is the same for many niche game concepts, fewer games are made, games that are made need to make more money.
