Alright friends
I've (almost) never played an FE game, but I've done my research.

Looks like these two games are the most recommended starting points. From what I can gather, FE(7) has the best tutorial, but is otherwise a much more difficult game. FE8 is the much easier game.

So which fucking one should I start on?

Flip a coin. They're both great. Sacred Stones is the most standalone and the easiest AND allows grinding, and on top of that has Seth who can and will solo the game for you. Blazing Blade has Lyn mode to get you started, which will suck after playing any other game, but drops you in the deep end after that. You can't win, give up now normie.

i'd actually say 8 has the most difficult chapter out of the two, and overall they're about even on normal mode.
FE8 hard mode is a pretty good starting point i'd say. the real hard mode for FE7 (hector hard mode) is only unlocked after beating the game twice, and that's the only part that is harder than FE8 really, but you probably don't want to play the same game three times in a row if it's your first one. also the FE7 tutorial is actually mind numbingly boring and holds your hands too much, so i find FE8 a more interesting starting point personally. you can't really go wrong with either though.

I'd actually recommend Fire Emblem 6. It's a soft reboot of Fire Emblem 1 but with much better inventory management.

Not really, it's just somewhat harder than the easiest game (FE8)

I actually feel like the Lyn tutorial kinda sucks, since it has hard-coded events that make it impossible to fail. Without these extreme handholding elements you could actually make some mistakes and learn from them. But that's just how I best learn things I guess

Play FE7 because it has a tutorial. FE7 Lyn/Eliwood and FE8 aren't that much different difficulty wise anyway.

I would recommend starting with 8, even thought 7 starts with a tutorial that treats you like you have never even heard of the concept of a fire emblem game before, so it's pretty painful to sit through if it's not your first.

I think FE6's ambush spawns aren't really as egregious as most people say, it's mostly just PTSD from their first time getting owned by Rutger despite the warnings. The first time reinforcements appear is in chapter 3, and they serve as a good demonstration that they act right away while starting from a safe distance. Most of the reinforcements are either alluded to in the dialogue, or come from decently obvious places. Most of the maps in the game considered the hardest aren't really considered so because of the reinforcements, like chapter 7 for example. There's also the fact that a lot of enemies (and by extension reinforcements) have dismal hit rates because of the weapons. Anyone with steel weapons is probably weighed down to shit too.

A good one to start with is also FE3, it's really good for learning FE as you play, with book 1 being a non jank remake of FE1 and book 2 being a harder sequel

I do think FE3 is a pretty good game for its time, lots of soulful animation, but it still has some jank of its own, like how annoying it is to check enemy ranges. Book 1 is also not a full remake of FE1, so there's that too.

Although my issue with FE4's storytelling is more that since there's such large time gaps between chapters (not a bad thing) a lot of important and interesting conversations wind up happening offscreen. So characters just suddenly know things they didn't before. It's realistic, sure but it's not always narratively satisfying. Like Silvia's kids suddenly just know they're siblings now when they didn't before.

Camus needed to come back, Hardin was the most popular male in the FE1 days (Lena was the most popular female if you're curious) so to make players invested he became a villain because of Nyna, so Nyna also needed to be punished to make up for it (so Camus needed to move on and destroy her, she wasted her time pining after a guy who forgot her and got remarried) and fulfil the curse of the Fire Emblem (so Marth didn't have to bear it).

This angle doesn't work because Manfroy is the one who's concerned about Seliph while Julius is the one who views Seliph as an insect and not an actual threat. Manfroy spent the whole chapter before this wringing his hands over Seliph undoing all the work they've done. Not to mention he somehow convinces Julius (who is actually afraid of Naga's power and advocating for Julia's death until he just... arbitrarily changes his mind)

It's just bad writing made to justify a happy ending being possible.

Yes but they only released those two results from it. It's in the Fire Emblem Encyclopaedia. The FE wiki says it's on page 133 but I don't own a copy so I can't verify it (I was already aware of this prior, though through Serenes and I've seen the same claims on Altema and other jP sites so I believe it)
