depends on where you fail
but I'd say automate your market, build buildings after RGO and play as a costastal nation with your capital at the coast to spread control over the sea
then the rest will be similar to EU4
>>725352059 (OP)
Unironically, yes. There are bugs, but the core is very solid, as is their approach of attempting to simulate history, instead of just shitty arcady
>click mission tree for claims on the whole world
>click button for immediate trillion ducats
You can easily spot a brainlet by the fact that they automate everything. Also retarded takes, born out of not playing or understanding the game. I saw someone claim the UI was bad, because seeing a country's opinion was a convoluted process. In reality, you see opinion by hovering cursor on the country, clicking on the country or just using opinion map mode. The UI is worse than EU4, sure, but there are a lot of retards out there, complaining about nonexistent things. Hopefully they add multiple map modes to a single keybind soon, like in EU4.
This is the first time I've heard of a new strategy game dropping and actually being an improvement in years, is it really that good?
Newbie support thread?
On the map there was a place that had sheeps on it. So naturally i built a sheep farm there. However nobody starts working at the sheep farm for some reason. Demography tab shows that there are 1800 laborers in that area. Why do they not start working at the sheep farm? I also started constructing a "Farming village" there hoping that would help. But i have no idea
>>725353543
It's good but the sheer amount of information and decisions can be overwhelming. Every single person that lived during that time period is simulated.
It's also overwhelming in scale. You go from the Middle Ages to Napoleon's era, so a playthrough can easily be 200+ hours.

Only develop around your capital first as these will be the places with more control. More control = more money, troops etc. Building in a region with 0 control will give you nothing.
Also build roads around your capital for increased control
What's the point if normal people can't understand your game

To me it sounds like steep learning curve and takes a long time to play through a game but once you've figured that out the game is going to be ass without competent ai to challenge you. Something like being the clear winner in the first 100 years but there's 400 more to go does not sound great.

No, they don't need to be literate to become sheep farmers. Literacy is just one of the things that affect pop promotion speed for peasants.
You can also go for free subjects, instead of serfdom, to have higher pop promotion speed. You can have a cabinet member work on pop promotions, IIRC. There are also buildings that affect pop promotion speed in a location.

It's a matter of opportunity cost. I would never integrate territory myself, using a cabinet action. Instead, just conquer territory and create a vassal/fiefdom from there. Then later on, annex it. It is free cores and you actually get cashflow from that territory, when it is a vassal, since the vassal has control there. Integrating a vassal also only requires diplomats, which you can generate using money. Cabinet members are too important to utilize for integrating provinces, at least in the early game.

I have expanded, centralized, and reformed Cahokia into a monarchy - why do I need outside contact to come up with legalism, for example? Also iron working being locked behind feudalism is funny to me, but I get that it's for gameplay reasons

Still not really sure what the difference between fiefdom and vassals are.
I have two fiefdoms and one vassal now and I notice that the fiefdoms have my countrie's ruler as their ruler as well, while the vassal has the one person I sent them (one of my sons, I hope that was also a good idea).
Oh and I get a little prestige per month, but is that really all?

The main difference is fiefdoms have your ruler as their ruler, while vassals have a separate ruler. Vassals also get some institution growth IIRC. The main function with these is that the combined subject strength vs overlord is compared with fiefdoms and vassals separately, so having both allows you to invest less in diplomacy, because the subjects will be more loyal, due to being "divided".

Thanks anons. There are 7000 farmers there. They still wont join. I also built a cloth maker there and it filled up instantly with workers. Was it wrong to build a sheep farm there? Maybe i didn't need to do that in order to utilize the wool that is there?

Expand your RGOs to lower the price of goods for your factories and then sell the surplus. Weavers/whatever using wool will only fill up if that factory is profitable, which it should be unless you're picking unprofitable factories and why do that when the game tells you which building is most profitable?

It's probably unprofitable so people won't work there unless you subsidise it. Also yes, you don't need sheep farms anyway, just increase wool RGOs where they exist naturally, I think the farm buildings are for if you don't have those/are already capped out, or possibly they eventually get more productive with a bunch of techs and shit applying to them.

>Have to personally manage the guilds to make sure they are profitable

Say what you want about realism or complexity or whatever, but it’s just such an unkingly burden and ruins my immersion. Tedious shit like feeding the peasantry should be handled by some magistrate or just ignored completely, like it was in real life. I tried playing Crusader Kings 2 when it was free on Steam for a weekend and got bored very quickly. HOI4 also looks boring simply because I am tired of WW2 as a setting/historical period.

The whole point of roads is to get control over territories further away. For control, look at proximity cost. Proximity increases your maximum control over a location. Proximity cost reductions allow your proximity to travel further. Also note that proximity cost reductions are additive with each other, meaning they have increasing marginal utility. You push for centralization, get itenerant court, then all other proximity cost reductions. Early game, things like temples give max control in locations.

Absolutely boring start because you're uber rich and got no threat around but then 1400 hits and theres a random chance japan explodes into sengoku border gore. The actual sengoku jidai part is rough though because you get gutted hard and you can't be too aggressive as the shogunate because 90% of your wars will cost a decent amount of stability. Event wise, its kinda meh since no historical stuff like Nobunaga and no tanegashima guns after the christians arrive which was kinda weird.

They do raise proximity. You get a proximity reduction of 40 when passing through one location to another, but if there is a road, it is reduced (by 25 - to 15 in my case). So where you'd have proximity of 60 without road, you'd have 85 with it (not counting modifiers...). Just make sure there's sense in building the road because many locations are reached by sea easier than even if you do build a road. You can check how a location is reached by clicking on it while in proximity map mode.

Is there anything you can do to make Antagonism(/AE) tick down faster? In EUIV, you actually could manage it in many ways like
>Actually improving relations to above 0 (seems to be possible here too but you're gonna struggle to get it to even 0 with different religions in EUV)
>Improve relations %
>AE % reductions
So far I'm not finding too many ways to reduce how much antagonism you get, and I don't think there's improve relations % that would make it tick down faster. What can you do about it in EUV?
>>725383484
More ships = faster rising presence. It also raises faster if you're paying more for ships. A ship on one tile affects all other tiles in the zone. Like my stack gives me presence in all North Sea at the same time.
>>725383735
Improving relations directly lowers antagonism as far as I know.

>Castles take forever to take and attrition makes it not even worth it
I don't understand how attrition works, honestly. But when you get artillery (regulars), it gets a lot faster. Longest siege I've had was ~700 days. Most are far shorter. Slightly better than EUIV so far.
>Every war is a cat and mouse game where you and the enemy AI run around trying to catch the smaller army
In this game, the AI actually engages you even if they can't win. It feels way more realistic (and more importantly >fun) exactly because it's NOT just a cat and mouse game and the AI trying to be as annoying as possible instead of actually trying to win.
The EUV AI either throws stacks at me and dies or tries to siege their own forts back. The EUIV AI just disappears to go on a world tour in order to materialize in the most annoying spot possible to siege down some shit after a 4 month march, and immediately flees if I approach, and only takes battles where he knows he will win. Basically EUV feels like fighting a war and EUIV feels like playing a game because nothing the AI does is in any way reasonable in terms of irl fighting.

You wouldn't have needed a loan if the money was in your pocket instead of theirs though. It's the same money either way, right? Instead of taking the money as a loan you took it directly as your taxes, only difference is that you don't need to pay it back.
The only downside of balanced taxing them that I've seen is losing out on the bonuses for high estate happiness, but those seem pretty minor.

You don't need to control the market or have it be your capital market to tax them, they just need somewhere they can actually reach to sell their goods. I haven't messed with colonialism, but presumably you'll want to set up a market over there somewhere if one doesn't already exist.
>>725389213
You should just be able to make a market over there. One nation can have many markets, and if it's a big nation it'll need to. I don't see what difference it makes if it's a vassal or not?
does the game have those retarded nested tooltips from ck3? where you have to hover over something for a second for the first, useless tooltip to lock in and then hover over that for a second to get the actually useful info (and sometimes you would have to go even deeper into the layers of useless ones)
i hated that shit, it was quicker to scan the essay that stretched from top to bottom of the screen to get the info you needed

If I get EU5 now it feels like I'll have wasted the money on 4 but on the other hands learning EU5 from the ground up might be easier. That said there will also be a shitton of DLC in the future which kind of puts me off too.

I did the parliament thing where you can take more taxes and damn I get so much more now. Gonna have to find a way to increase the max tax I can take as a decentralized country

They're various values, but the thing that changes every time is the strength comparison. I just had a chance to check it by ending a war. Before peacing out the "country strength vs overlord" value for loyalty was -115, now it's -46... It just swaps every time I'm at war, even if I don't raise levies or do anything.

I heard that but I already am decentralized. I thought if my people are happy I can tax them higher but for example my Burgerijs have currently a max satisfaction of 98%, but I can only tax them for like 15% cause of their might. It's ridiculous

Aaaand, I've just figured out why. The army size stat for all my vassals doubles whenever I'm at war. Pretty sure it is a bug and the game is double counting their levies when they're raised or something. On this image, the left is before white peacing, the right after.

Raised vassal/fief levies gives them more strength in calculation. If you raise levvies too it should balance out if you are a big nation or even push them being more loyal so they can be annexed.

That doesn't makes sense. The army size value says it already includes levies when you hover over it, and checking the numbers it obviously does. Then when they raise them all it's also clearly doubled, I can see they don't have anywhere near as many men as listed.
Also my strength calculation doesn't seem to change whether my levies are raised or not, hence why I get fucked by it in the comparison. I'm 99% sure it's just a bug.

So control is calculated based on the distance to the capital. Is there any reason to connect other cities to each other by roads, or is the capital the only distance I should worry about?
