I think there's one rail in chapter 10 where you the prompt to let you switch pops up like half a second before you get hit by a train on your current rail but other than that I don't think there's any sections you should be having trouble with.

i really hate how you seem to have to block/parry/dodge a second before the animation is even going. at least for bosses. bosses in this game also have no attack tells they just attack. like the shark faggot will at any point just do an incredibly fast back flip attack with no cue or tell that does 30% of your life.

That's the closest ng4 enemies get to ng2 bosses I would say. But also the shark boss is similar to the lantern enemies, you learn to anticipate the moment the grab/explosion comes, for the lanterns it happens about 5 hits in.

I find that bosses in ng4 are fun and easy to approach since your defensive options are very powerful. You can use the drill to parry most attacks on most bosses just attacking with the drill preemptively and holding the br attack.

It's harder than NGB Master Ninja, maybe on par with or a bit harder than 2 on Master Ninja. Bosses certainly are much harder imo, going through the levels is a toss-up, but these games play pretty differently so it's hard to compare when the difficulty is pushing you on different points in each game. I haven't played 3RE Master Ninja so I'm not sure, but from what I have played of 3RE I feel like that one is the hardest.

I just got to the Ryu chapters and is it just me or does the game feel a lot better? Not as much wasted time hearing MGS yelling after death. Heavy feeling moveset that feels good to delimb enemies with. Ninpo that can reliably keep enemies off my back. I like the Yakumo drill and hammer but it's making me so sad that Ryu was shafted for DLC. I wonder if this game was rushed out the door and the DLC has a lot more than they've announced.

Ryu chapters are better paced than Yakumo's imo since there's not as much introduction to new characters and filler sections. Ryu is also more powerful than Yakumo, deals more damage etc.

I feel Ryu was originally always planned to be DLC and the main game was 100% Yakumo. The game felt weirdly long at 19 chapters and the switch to flashback Ryu right before the final mission was kind of awkward. I think the game was originally meant to be 15 missions with no Ryu but somebody decided they need to have Ryu playable in the main game too because otherwise people would be insanely pissed off. Probably the right move marketing wise but imo I think Ryu felt tacked on

I think the story was rewritten during development to change things around, Ryu took Tyran's place etc.
It's strange that they have such a detailed model for Tyran and he's just a glorified menu.
I think they made this change because TN decided there was no way there could be a Ninja Gaiden game without playing as Ryu.
The devs said that Tyran was the character whose role in the story changed the most so I feel like this is the most likely. The DLC also has Yakumo wielding a scythe, which is what Tyran wields in concept art.
I feel like Tyran's role was rewritten and his content (not as a playable character, but the assets relating to the character etc.) was moved to the DLC.

Furthermore, the final ritual weapon is also a scythe. Achilles takes it and it turns into a scythe, but Yakumo does not obtain it afterwards, instead we go into the Ryu flashback missions and Yakumo gets a stripped back moveset for the final mission, which makes sense since you have just played as Ryu.
I feel like there was going to be a showdown with Tyran at some point close to the end and Yakumo acquires the scythe instead of the Dark Dragon Blade as the final weapon.

You also don't really need to react to their first attack because parries aren't perfect guard, you can block the first hit and counter the second in the blockstring. At least that's how I always do it in NG2. No point in exposing yourself to risk like that if you don't have to.

I don't even understand what pseuds mean with "positioning" when it comes 3D action games. With fighting games positioning is important because the space is pretty limited and determined by the the other player's character.

Like, basically all action games let you move incredibly freely and so can the enemies. Dodging and jumping are also extremely generous and common mechanics. Maybe if you're talking about Dark Souls 1 or Onimusha 1, but Ninja Gaiden?

It just feels like positioning is a buzzword for these people. As if just having or not having makes a game good or bad by default.

Just noticed he included a video too. I think his video speaks for itself if you've played both games. He's literally chaining invincible move into invincible move in 2. There's no preemptive execution, you have plenty of time to react while fully invincible and doing guaranteed delimb moves.
Your main risk is getting grabbed on land, enemies attacking while you spam tonfa cancels is a non issue. You don't see him going for regular strings and the more robust moveset people are upset that was gutted from 4. I feel like 3RE would be a better game to make the point he's making than 2. There's no bigger checkmate state than regretting having purchased a health upgrade multiple chapters prior.

I've played a shit ton of NG2, even on master ninja, and haven't done this a single time.

What matters in NG2 is staying on the move and using iframes to stay safe and kill shit. And i love NG2, but not gonna pretend you have to give a fuck about spacing lol. What you need to worry about is what iframes are available to nullify the 10 IS shurikens on Ryus ass

Yeah learning the IS timing is crucial. You have to iframe through them as second nature starting from Mentor. Blocking is not too bad as a fallback, though. The damage isn't anywhere near as high as 4 on MN, and personally I think that's a good thing, 4 MN feels a bit overtuned in damage.

The game is enjoyable but I was promised MGR2. The executions of mobs are all fine and even great, but so far I'm at like Chapter 10 and Yakumo hasn't fought any humanoid boss other than Ryu and D.D.O Commander, so there's 0 back and forth banter and Yakumo only says MONDAI NAI and COME at the Daemons so he comes of as an edgy looking character with 0 actual edge.

The execution cutscenes of the bosses are also lacking spectacle, the only one I've liked so far is the PoV one with the Drill. Stellar Blade got far better and brutal death cutscenes for the bosses, and MGR as well.

No it's a disingenuous webm and I don't know what's going on there, but someone said it was "hash edited". I'm going through the game right now on master ninja and I was not able to replicate such a thing, the enemies were way more agressive, punished me for going into the air, and were VERY grab and slash happy, so that webm is bs. Even on lower difficulties that doesn't happen.

Kino. It is another cherry on top of the design achievement that is Yakumo's movelist.
The entirety of the game combat systems swirls around it and Dark Yakumo makes it full circle.
Capcom failed this in DMC4 and didn't even attempt in DMC5 (no Nero or Dante boss fight).
The boss can use every single move in the players' arsenal, is susceptible to each of counterplays established through the game while still being menacing AND having exclusive moves.
I don't have a single bad thing to say about it.

I actually tested myself although on Sigma 2 Black on Master Ninja and was able to replicate it in the same place, and playing very poorly too.
Of course it's not representative of the average Master Ninja encounter, but it shows that it's easy to misrepresent any game however you want if that's your goal.

Maybe I'm underestimating the amount of sleep I get when I perform best, but there seems to be a goldilocks zone for not over or undersleeping. Ryu feels amazing but 1 moveset is fucking criminal, and even loses its uniqueness when Yakumo gets the DDS (keeping Gleam instead of at least making a different bloodraven form feels lazy as fuck) . Im pretty sure Ryu hits harder and ninpo is broken, so he remains the stronger character, but Im hoping for more than just 1 new weapon for the DLC.

in the original NG you could parry by hitting the attack button while blocking. you'd time it by holding block, allowing the enemy to hit you, and as soon as the sound is about to, or does register that your blade was hit you hit the attack button, and you counter. in 2, 3, and apparently 4(haven't played it lmfao 70 dollar game emajuuuun) you have to sorta anticipate it, or allow them to hit once, and then parry on the next hit to get a feel. it is usually better to allow them to sorta hit you, and parry into the flow of their attacks rather anticipating the first.

I hate death wish because I hate whenever a game goes "you know all those upgrades you spent time exploring for and upgrading? We don't actually want you to use them. In fact, you're a bitch if you do." reducing the sense of reward to nothing. God forbid the player has fun figuring out which combination of accessories gives them a slight edge on different missions. Can't have that opportunity for variety.

I think no damage is fine in DMC for example, it's a different kind of game; but I personally don't think it belongs in Ninja Gaiden. Not with gunfire and shurikens flying everywhere. I tried watching someone doing a purgatory while achieving untouchable. Did I see amazing god-like ninja action? No, I saw someone jumping around as Ryu waiting for the gleam meter to fill up so he could use fireball and sometimes UT when essences were around. I don't blame him it encourages the player to play like a bitch. If it was a scale where you got a bigger karma bonus the less damage you took then whatever, but I dislike when there's such a strong dividing line between taking 0 damage and taking 1 damage; and if you've taken 1 damage you might as well take 10 000 because there's no difference.

You could say "Anon, if you don't like them then stop being autistic and just ignore them." And if they were just buried in the karma score I would, but there's a huge "Not achieved" plastered on everything as you browse the menus. The game is aggressively telling me I'm playing it wrong for wanting to have fun.

TL;DR Earlier games didn't have this shit, I don't like it here. Kill things and don't die should be enough.

I think real time weapon switching should be Yakumo's thing, since his arsenal is centered around using different weapons for different situation.
Meanwhile, Ryu's weapons should make him feel like an entirely different character, at the cost of switching weapons the same way you switch accessories. Also, let Ryu swap ranged weapons. Yakumo doesn't need thel because of BR ranged and the box, but I feel like it would allow Ryu to close the gap between the two's gameplays.

Before I played Ninja Gaiden on Xbox, 2 games had already shaped my opinion. Devil May Cry 1 and Tenchu 1 on PS1. Then I finally get an Xbox in like 2003 or something, first off, Ryu Hayabusa's 3D model looks incredible, it's a fantastic design. But literally everything else about Ninja Gaiden 1 was kinda blah, and I thought it was just a lesser version of DMC 1.

- There were no cool ranged weapons, the kunai didn't do shit, it's like a faster version of DMC except you couldn't do shit from ranged, you were constantly chasing enemies around
- Ryu was too flippy dippy (omg I'm flipping at you to attack you, every single enemy everytime, omg flying swallow.....again!)
- Areas were kinda boring
- I thought the regular enemies were cool but the bosses all looked like some bootleg contra ripoff shit
Not one memorable boss fight in the entire franchise besides big karate ninja man
Ninja magic and gadgets were extremely lacking after enjoying Tenchu and the NG games on NES (Ninja Gaiden was my first NES game I owned)

The sequels didn't do anything to change my opinion either. And you people are the ones that call Ninja Gaiden Black "peak". Basically I'm saying 3D Ninja Gaiden was never good.
