original oblivion was good for when it was released, the remake however is a soulless asset flip and it took me 5 hours of gameplay before I dropped it.

they didn't fix the main issue of the OG game which is balancing and progression and just the combat in general not being fun, they made it equally as bad, if not worse, and this is 20 years later when you would think AAA studios have some sense about how to make the gameplay not suck ass... it was acceptable for the original release, but not in current year.

and the worst part is that the game was a bug ridden heap of shit (and probably still is) despite the fact that they weren't even on any time constraints to release it since it dropped pretty much unannounced.

I did find the retards online baseding out over how "it's just like the original because of the bugs!!!" basically coping about the half made UE5 slop that they dropped to turn a quick buck

It actually felt like a completely brand new experience relative to how every RPG had played before it. In that context, it's easy to see why there's so much nostalgia for it.

But there's a reason Skyrim immediately supplanted it as the defacto Elder Scrolls game in the collective consciousness. I'm sure you've all heard the nitpicking reasons why "Oblivion is better than Skyrim" but in literally every other way Skyrim substantially improved on Oblivion. In particular, it's actually crazy how much Skyrim's overworld and dungeon design blows Oblivion out of the water.

Compared to fucking Oblivion? Skyrim's dungeons use the same tile sets but they're assembled by genuine level designers so they all have a unique layout and typically an associated narrative. Oblivion's dungeons by contrast feel like a bunch of rooms randomly thrown together. Its best dungeons like Sundercliff Watch only came about in the DLC after Bethesda hired the people who became Skyrim's level design leads, and the difference is night and day. You can instantly when you're playing DLC content in the Remaster because the level design doesn't suck ass. Literally every single dungeon in Skyrim btfo any dungeon from base game Oblivion. The difference is that stark.

I've only played Morrowind and Skyrim. Thought Morrowind was decent and hated Skyrim. Tried this remake and refunded it early on. Everything is very static and non-interactive, combat isn't good, and dungeons were linear and boring.

The character's animations are considerably less ass, faces are kinda soulless but acceptable, it doesn't look like Shrek 2, and modded SE barely crashes. And the main quest is decent enough to not be skipped on every playthrough. Most sidequests are terrible though, and the entire game looks washed out without ENB.

honestly, I forgot how shitty the oblivion gates were when I replayed this. No wonder when I played Oblivion when it originally came out I didn't even bother going in most of the random gates that spawned.

They're all the same copy pasted layout but slightly different with the same assets used over and over again. Closing each gate achieves nothing, you don't even need to close any except the few that matter for the story.

Not to mention the rest of the game is 90% underground elvish ruin #234 with wraiths or underground cave with trolls or goblins or bears or some shit #453 with nothing of interest to actually loot or fort ruin #192 with skeletons.

My god it's so fucking repetitive and it gets old so fast. You don't even need to really explore around anyways because there's not much to actually discover that's even worthwhile.

This is mostly true. That being said, I replayed Morrowind not long ago and although it's definitely rough as fuck to play now, it's still better than Oblivion.
Oblivion was always really generic, uninteresting and just didn't feel fun to play due to the level scaling. The only thing it had was slightly better gameplay than Morrowind (and I guess technically better graphics, but a god awful artstyle).
