why do small monitors no longer exist? the "minimum" size (that are easily available new rather than pre-owned) of monitor keeps increasing, yet my room and desk aren't magically getting 3 inches bigger every couple years. 21 inch monitors no longer exist and i have to lean back like i'm on a rollercoaster to "comfortably" use my 24 inch, and even 24 is becoming harder to get now that 27 is being pushed as the norm

Higher pixel density on 27"? 1080p is around 82 ppi compared to around 100 on 1440p at that size, makes the image sharp as fuck, negating the trend of blurry visuals everyone in the industry has been jerking it to for the last two decades. Same reason for downsampling larger resolutions, makes the image even sharper if you're into that, and in some cases makes anti-aliasing redundant so your games no longer need to look like somebody coated the camera in Vaseline.

Nigga I literally just upgraded to a 1440p rig from a 1080p rig that I had been using since 2014. It's noticeably sharper and better.

~20" portable monitors are fairly common. You can even vesa mount them.

I went from like a 24" or something like that 1080p monitor to a 27" 1440p monitor a year ago and the difference was pretty huge. I was in the middle of playing FF7 Remake when I switched and the game was so much sharper and less blurry that I couldn't believe it. I wonder if I'll experience that again when I switch to 4k in 10 years
