This is what ruined Pandaemonium for me. I thought the reveal was building up to Athena being the creator of aether tempering, a mechanism that had been seen as a fate worse than death since the beginning of the game's story. A bunch of weirdos allowing their aether to mix with dangerous concepts in the first two wings, the big boss of the past being the half of Lahabrea which had been corrupted by Athena's aether, obsessively attempting to reconstruct her body and will, body horror elements when the people who merged with concepts were overtaken, a though line for tempering entering the Ascian repertoire through Lahabrea who was forced to recombine with his tempered half, but nope. The third wing went off in the weeds and was about Athena wanting to create life using souls from the lifestream. As an Ancient. A race of people who we know have the ability to weave aether into creations that are living creatures.

I was actually worried that 7.0 would change the genders to "body type", despite how races/genders being so part of the game's lore since the beginning. If only their recent games could be unfucked in that aspect. So fucking tired of it and hate when it stated in 2020 with Animal Crossing and Demon's Souls.
It was concerning cause they kept on making gear "gender neutral", but at the same time they still name things male/female accordingly. Like the new Monster Hunter Wilds gear. They outright call it M and F but the originating game doesn't do that.

I'm pretty sure that's just because Dark aether tends to result in things like coiling demon horns, the same way Water aether results in fins and gills when people get tempered by Leviathan, for instance.

I'd never thought about it, but I agree. Sabik is also a star in the Ophiuchus constellation that Zodiark represents, so it would tie those together.

If that's true then you'll remember things like MNK being all about sustained damage rather than burst windows, or NIN's Goad allowing WAR and MNK to be greedy with TP usage, BRD songs being about supporting the group (and also having an extra healer LB). If the game is purely about dps and every job does dps in the same way (2 minute burst windows) then the only question about what job you bring is who does more dps. That's the one and only deciding factor, which makes job balance even worse than if you had them actually play differently. Differing job identity also opens the window for people who are shit at playing the game in some ways to still support a group without being dead weight, like if you have Johnny Hamfingers on a support job instead of 'mash piano keys in two minute burst' job, then he can still be useful.

Focus on content that emphasizes replayability. Not the current PVP modes. The current PVP in XIV is a niche thing for a wide audience. They need content that will attract people on a wider scale and keep their attention. Something cooperative or PVP-oriented, casual, easily accessible(but requires a sub), and very replayable. XIV's combat mechanics and netcode won't stack up to a wider audience so if they keep it the same way, it would have to be optimized. that's just not true. In the basic gameplay loop of "complete task, receive reward" the reward is almost always gear. You kill a raid/dungeon boss and it gives you gear. You complete a roulette and get tomes you can turn into gear. You do stuff in OC to get silver you use to upgrade your gear. The promise of gear is the incentive attached to most forms of content in the game, it is absolutely an end in and of itself. It's just that this mechanical reward is not emotionally rewarding by providing an increase in perceived power.

Why do people playing this Massive Multiplayer Online RPG have such an aversion to seeing other players out in the world? So much so you actually prefer the overworld being a bunch of dead space?

I mean Hunts have been a broken system for, bare minimum 100% guarantee, 6 years with no discussion or changes coming so they're pretty much ingrained alongside most other long standing problems.

You could argue the same for Treasure Maps, the only time people actually want to do the damn things is when the moogle tomestone event is running for the good maps, and if we're going to have worse than casino slot chances then the least they could do is let us carry around more than 3 maps at a time even if it doesn't address the primary problem.

I don't even know why Cosmic Exploration exists if we're just going to let Artisan run rampant, at least Ishgard was good for leveling all your professions in one place.

The raid scene has only declined since forever, which is unsurprising when the entire rest of the triple digit hours of game is intentionally supposed to be done blind and when players arrive at the "real" endgame the game ceases to be XIV and becomes Lost Ark where you need to research everything before hand.
This problem specifically exasperates as time continues, no new player will ever touch an EX or above for 99 levels now, likely to be 109 levels in a year, and both the mechanic/difficulty power creep becomes an issue too.

Meanwhile the one thing that kind of worked was Eureka / Bozja but with a 1 year before release date for DT's version of it (and the huge steps back Occult was) that isn't going to help anything anyway even if they do it again in a future expansion unless they go back to Eureka content coming out nearly every patch so you had a reason to come back more than once per year.

They talk about trying to get new players but nobody wants to join over decade old MMOs, it's why even the chincy korean grinder MMOs will catch several hundred thousand player counts at release because people WANT something new but all they get is shite before those players disappear.
They needed an XIV2 to address the long standing problems XIV has.

In wow if your class has specs that use different main stats the gear will just have greyed out stats that are for the other spec and if you swap to that spec then the greyed stats becomes active. If they really want to make three melee gear sets then they should just be doing this with all of them and making them accessible to every melee. This would make substat tiering so much less annoying and you could freely choose the set appearance you like the most if you're not playing at the high end where that substat stuff matters.

Of course people would just instead complain that melee then have three sets to choose from while their preferred role only gets one, so pick your poison. There will always be somebody who feels like a victim over anything the devs try to do in this game.

If I gear up for a raid tier:

AS A TANK/HEALER: I have 4 options (soon to be 5 tank for 8.0?) and can flex based on meta, party comp, who my cotank/healer is, which fight I'm doing, etc. and still play with the same gear.

AS A DRG/RPR or NIN/VPR or SAM/MNK: I have 2 options and if the second melee dps in my party is one of them I have 0 flexibility. Once I've invested my tomes and got some loot, either I swap to another job with shittier gear or suck it up.

Gearing in FFXIV takes forever but I wouldn't be so upset about that if I had a few more options in what I could play as BiS.

Just you wait, they'll remove stats and gear entirely except as cosmetic slot items. Instead you'll get something like "Unaspected Soul Crystal iLv600" that does exactly what it says in the name and nothing else, the average of which the game will calculate your power from. They won't even have specific types for body/legs/etc, you'll have a list of slots and you drop in whatever you have.

I don't really want more grind in my ffxiv. I play the game too much as it is. Being able to grab some food, pots, and crafted gear and being able to raid and then check out after is what makes it good.

I fundamentally distrust a lot of the community when it comes to a "deeper and more involved gear system". I sincerely do not believe most of you can be trusted with something like this (a few of you can, but you guys don't run pf). That's not to say, that gearing couldn't be a lot deeper. Gearing in FFXIV is extremely shallow. But I've seen folks in pf completely crash out over someone having augmented tome weapon vs. relic weapon in end of expansion pf prog parties - I don't want to see a situation where pf feels incentivized to lock prog parties behind having a full tier set or something (which is something I 100% expect pf to do if we had tier sets). This fundamentally means, either you're grinding out the alternative gear system asap, or you're doing week 1 savage asap and I don't really find either option appealing.

I know this talking point is kind of old and tired, but whatever method there is of obtaining in-between gear will become mandatory for prog parties. That's not inherently evil or anything, a similar sentiment exists with late pfers and tome gear - but tome gear is pretty easy to acquire, I have no idea how much time and effort I have to spend into some other alternative gearing system so I'm inherently skeptical of it unless I hear hard details on how it works. But I guess that brings up the elephant in the room, can you have alternative gear that is more long form without it being a pain in the ass to get? I'm not so sure you can - I kind of think it inherently has to be a pain to acquire for it to have longevity.

All of Endwalker's content, pre and post-patch, is genuinely some of the worst content the game has ever had. It's insane to me that people praise it as much as they do, even if they do enjoy the story. Personally I think everything past Babel shits the fucking bed story-wise too. And no I'm not a Garloid.
I can understand hating DT's story though, but I at least had SOME fun with the MSQ content itself and the expert content was really fun and energizing to too.
Unfortunately I was never able to get into an organized group for shit like Forked Tower, though.

Fucking amazing for people actually doing them.

Chaotic was phenomenal, the only problem was the shitters wanting to get carried and joining the fight without knowing anything.

Raids (both Arcadion and the 24man) have been great so far!

Cosmic exploration is a bit of a letdown but it still ask you to be geared and to know what you're doing for its most diffucult stuff, which is nice.

OC and the phantom job system has been super fun, FT is REALLY fun with an amazing atmosphere.

I remember thinking back in ShB that Hildy was gonna show up in the MSQ and be voiced simply because they were trying to figure out a way to send the Scions back across worlds, and we had seen Hildibrand fall into the Rift at the end of SB.

What I loved was closure for the ancients story and it was mostly neat time travel story that deals with the themes introduced in the base game
Its also like an end of an era kind of thing with all the main characters (and even minor ones) having their own moments to each shine with a specific part of the MSQ before ending it all for (You)r moment with a recap of your journey, the lessons learned and even getting a remixed version of your theme.
What didnt work was that the final days didnt seem too devastating except india but honestly I'm fine with it.
