VR has to get smaller before I invest in that, I have a quest 2 that I never use so it's whatever.

Depends on the FOV, I have a quest 2 and it was so off putting it felt like wearing scuba goggles and I barely used it. The frame looks like it's trying to ape that so hopefully they don't make the same compromise.

I'm very tempted to purchase the Steamdeck, but it can't run Destiny 2 yet.
Steam machine I'm interested in, sometimes I get tired of sitting at my desk and want to game late at night in bed.
VR I'm also interested, doesn't look as bulky as its predecessor.
Controller looks good, I already have two Xbox ones with back paddles, so if they break I'll pick up a steam one.

overall, I think I'm looking forward to jumping into steam hardware, just really hope more of the games I play come to Steamdeck.
I currently have a 5090/9950x3D PC.

Frame is the biggest news, especially foveated streaming could be divorced from frame hardware cause it would open up a lot of opportunities for 3rd party hardware. Fex is pretty cool too, having proper emulation layer for linux arm to x86 is important. Year of VR is coming babe not really, but a Valve are solving a lot of engineering for VR industry as a whole
Steam Machine 2.0 is kinda nothingburger but it proves Valves commitment to linux ecosystem so overall something positive.

Valve don't really invest in hardware. They invest in engineering for market to sustain and develop itself.
They want vr headsets to be a market, they invest in their VR to solve engineering issues current VR stack faces - namely bandwidth for video signal and utilization of ARM chips for compute.
Their shitbox is not about being a big hardware player - it's about their commitment to making linux a viable gaming platform.
They most definitely will lose the money on their hardware projects short to medium terms, but if enough manufacturers hop on their bandwagon - the landscape of computing as we know it will inevitably change.
They are in it for a long long one, sit down, enjoy the show.

The only one I can see myself buying is the controller, and even then that won't be for a good while (at least until both of the controllers I have start failing) and will also be reliant on how much it costs.
VR is something I would need to try before I consider buying it, and even then I'm not sure there are enough games for it to be worth it and it will just devolve into being a Beat Saber/VRchat/porn machine quickly.
Steam machine is completely pointless if you have a decent PC which I do.

If I was getting one, I'd keep it as is. I like the small form-factor and all black. My living room PC is big and bulky. I could use a replacement.

People don't seem to realize that Valve's whole effort since the first Steam Machines has basically been about building an eject button in case Microsoft ever tried to fuck them over (which was a real concern back when Microsoft was pushing its UWP/Store bullshit). The Steam Deck was Valve fixing all the mistakes that made the original Steam Machines unsustainable (because yeah, good luck convincing developers to port their games to an OS with a 0.5% market share). Now they're giving it a proper shot, actually trying to make SteamOS spread for real. If it ends up taking Xbox (console) spot, that's just a nice bonus.

RDNA 3.5+ or UDNA? arm64 or x86 for the Steam Deck 2? This is sounding more and more like Valve be switching to ARM if AMD doesn't get their act together with x86?

No, I already have 2 controllers.
>Machine
No, I already have a gayman PC and steam deck
>VR
Maybe. It depends on the price. I'm at least a bit curious about VR in general.

ARM isn't happening, the x86-64 translation negates all the efficiency. Also, it's not like ARM is inherently more efficient than x86. People just think that because of Apple chips, but they're simply two nodes ahead of the rest of the industry since they keep buying out TSMC's entire production. That's why they're so efficient.
I still remember when people thought the M1 was the shit, until AMD released a mobile CPU on the same node that was actually more power efficient.

btw, getting the whole package from AMD is cheaper than designing a custom CPU and getting the GPU from them anyway, and it saves a lot of headaches.

The whole problem with VR is not enough feedback, grabbing something and not actually feeling it sucks.
