The whole subplot about the cut team member going evil is so fucking weird.

They side with Shroud and participate in attempted/actual murder while torturing and trying to decapitate Bobby. They do this for no real reason. You didn't wrong them in any meaningful way. If they did this because you sent them back to prison for being literally the lowest performer in the entire company (with two orders of magnitude lower productivity than the median worker), that'd already be bad enough, but at least somewhat understandable.

But it's not even that; they aren't sent back to jail if they get cut from the Phoenix Program. They can go about their day and are free to work at McDonalds or whatever. Instead they decide to join Operation Blow Up A Fucking City out of spite at being cut from a job (that they deliberately neglected and fucked up). That's straight-up irredeemably evil, pure psychopathy. This basically justifies Glazer's choice to cut whoever it is it in hindsight because holy shit that is absolutely unhinged. I've been laid off before and I never once considered going back and bombing the office, much less become a serial killer and started murdering unrelated people.

It'd feel way more organic if they took Glazer's "you're better than this speech" to heart. In a show that would cause them to switch sides and realize they've gone way too far. Then they'd save the day and earn their redemption. But here instead they just say "nah fuck off I like being evil."

Yet after ALL of this, Robert is encouraged by the team to forget all of that and brush off the cut member's betrayal as the actions of a lovable scamp. They think you're a dick if you disagree. It makes no fucking sense unless they're operating on the assumption that nothing that happens in their world actually matters.

the shit that really impressed me was the final dispatch of episode 8, i expected it to be mostly cutscenes but godDAMN there's a lot of kino and actual difficulty

Sonar/Coop is the best choice of the game in terms of reactivity. Which is crazy because it's a choice made at the first quarter mark and it shows its impact the whole way through.

Meanwhile, they couldn't give us a single bad ending, an ending where any of the characters dies, an ending where Z-Team doesn't work well.
