But now its seeming like there's plenty of stock, and it probably won't be hard to get a hackable one if/when that happens. So I decided to cancel my preorder and just wait to see what happens.

Yeah, in my case having the switch 1 with CFW has been extremely nice, its still my primary device for emulation and I use it frequently, so upgrading to the switch 2's specs is very enticing. Plus there is one game coming out that I do want to play, and I'd like to at least try the others, but the prices are just absolutely absurd so I won't ever buy them.

Question. It's been a while since I originally modded my switch, but I can't seem to get back to the hekate menu.

I can turn off and boot into normal stock firmware, and I can plug it into my computer and go into recovery mode then use tegra to get back into cfw, but it bypasses the regular menu where you can pick/access other hekate options and boots right into the cfw. Any Idea on how I can get that menu back?

Yeah, it executes code just how games execute code, but it's still in userland so it can't actually mess around with the stuff needed for most homebrew (and definitely not for CFW) because it doesn't have the permissions for it. Dumping files is one thing, being able to install and run unsigned code is another. The PS5 started getting game dumps a while ago, then it took a while longer after that to actually manage to install them, but they can't actually be played (or something like that, it was a while ago and I haven't been following PS5 closely).

Gbatemp confirmed the SD card update is actually just EXfat driver update and not pairing to your system. And you can do that with a normal SD card in the system settings. Someone tested updating with a normal SD, doing the update, then it was able to read a new SD Express card offline like normal.

If you put the card in at any point that's not the system settings and prompted to, it bitches at you to take it out. Hello, I've been trying to get some PSX games onto my PS2's Harddrive via PFS Batchkit and despite setting up a __.POPS partition on my drive via the program after I try to check to make sure it's there, and it isn't. every attempt I make to transfer games over it gets stuck on the detecting POPS partition step. Do I need to just put the PS2 back into the system and use the file browser on that to create the partition? I swear I had one before as I had started Breath of Fire 3 a few weeks ago, but now I can't get any VCD files over.

apparently the devkit should have a tool for that, I couldn't find it.

That said, some people have been turning their switches on to update to 20.1.1 because it's the first actually functional firmware, and so they can download the stuff required to use the SD card (which will probably be needed for whatever exploit crops up).

also my 2 cents regarding to update vs don't update: if you want to use your system for normal gameplay obviously update, if you have a spare or are just keeping it to hopefully hack eventually don't update unless you think whatever potential hack will require the unhacked firmware to read micro sd express cards, I'd assume if an eventual hack needed a higher than 19.0 firmware there'd be a cart out there with it on it you could use to update an unupdated system (but since using micro sd cards requires connecting to the internet first even on an updated system it won't work if one of those would be required)

the ONLY reason switch 1 was so easily hacked was because of several big security fuckups, RCM being the main one. a trivial pre-boot hardware exploit is a best case scenario and allowed people to freely dig around in the system as much as they wanted, which made it easier to design a modchip for later hardware, but they found jack shit in the kernel beyond the early versions.
the kernel is simple and secure, and yes, this absolutely matters when it comes to how likely it is to be hacked you dumbass. nintendo followed the "don't fix what aint broken" approach and just re-used most of the firmware for switch 2, with all the existing fixes and security hardening, there's not much new, potentially-vulnerable code to find.
basically the only hope for switch 2 hax is another major hardware fuckup (extremely unlikely that they would make this mistake twice), or some sekrit club faggot still holding on to an unfixed kernel exploit found on switch 1 (which they likely won't release until it's patched, if at all)

All games receive a performance boost just by virtue of being on better hardware. Games with an uncapped framerate will jump from 30ish FPS to a solid 60 no problem.

For my switch 1 I've used a good quality chinese no brand 70w charger that came with a mini hot plate I once purchased and it's never failed or fried anything. I also use it to charge my phone, laptop and portable monitor. As soon as I got the switch 2 out of the box I didn't even take the charger out since I just used the same one and it worked flawlessly. Just installed the newest atmo, hekate, and sigpatches, and now my switch won't boot into RCM. It was working just fine before that. You're gonna have to run homebrew on sysnand, so just make sure you don't install any NSPs or anything like that to avoid getting banned. Simply using a save manager to import the save for a singleplayer game should be fine.

Get one of those USB SD card readers with two slots. Format the new card to Fat32. Literally drag and drop everything from the old one to the new one.

I have that Switch 2 Gamecube controller I was wanting to use with dolphin, but it appears jewtendo DRM'd their fucking controller now. I have about two weeks left to return it and was wondering what the realistic turn around time might be for someone making it work for PC? I had a PS4 controller work on my PC for years and a XC2 Switch controller work with zero issues outside of the bitch ass USB Cable disconnecting every few seconds.
Once I replaced the Nintendo brand USB Cable with my Cell Phone one it worked with zero issues.

Nta but if it's something like single player or even adhoc then it get's messy since like you said the user could set whatever time they want on the consoles. Definitely could see lil bro grabbing your pokemon cart but his time was off by an hour (wrong dst) and the log said it was played on two consoles at the 'same time'. But for online it might ping the nintendo server for a centralized timestamp so there's zero ambiguity. Or maybe it's like a motherboard where the bios clock runs off cmos and the os runs off whatever you set it as.
Plus people were posting about the mig dumping trimmed carts last thread.
Best practise is use mig only on switch 1 or use it on a switch 2 updated to day1 patch with all the dlc and free updates grabbed for the game. Then dns block or airplane until it's hackable and lets you wipe the log.

No. FPS is only raised in the switch 2 version. You get it by having the OG game and buying the $10 upgrade, or buy buying the $70 switch 2 edition instead of the regular $60 switch 1 edition. If you buy them this way, you still need the DLC, which is an extra 20 bucks, no matter which edition you have, and the DLC does nothing to improve performance.
